Alice Rankin: My Value Went Up, But Commish Value Down?

I thought it was interesting today to read that the property tax assessments on all the County Commissioner's went down this year. Along with their neighbors. Assessor McDowell commenting that land values typically dropped and home values went up. "On average property values increased by 13 percent this year, but that includes waterfront properties, which saw another 10 to 20 percent bump in value". I guess I am way out of the average because my land went up from $102,00 last year to $183,798 this year. More than my total assessment for home AND land was last year. My total assessment was up from $179,080 in 2006, to $253,088 this year. BTW I am not on the water. Currie's home went from $204,472 last year to $186,083 this year; Piazza's Hayden Lake home was $307,600 last year and $305,515 this year; Tondee's Post Falls home was $252,869 last year and $242,894 this year. It is sure nice to see that some people are benefiting from the real estate market slow down resulting in a drop in the assessed value of their property.
