Huckleberries Online

Inside Huckleberries — 2/15/07

*Cabbage Boy: Just an FYI, the Sacred Cow Burgers link has not be alive for quite some time. Sadly it looks like he let his domain expire and has moved on to better things. DFO: Thanks, Cabbage Boy, I need to remove dead wood from the blog fairly soon.

...

*Moscow Minidoka: DFO; you keep referring to the "Handle Extra." Why isn't the Handle Extra available to subscribers in Moscow? Don't we count? Answer: Why do you need Handle Extra when you already have access and a welcome matt placed for you -- at Huckleberries Online (where everyone knows your pseudonym). Basically, it's a staffing issue as well as recognition that Post Falls is a burgeoning community without adequate media coverage. Moscow is fortunate to have a Butch Alford publication.
...

*Sad note from NIDCop: "Just to let you know a Walla Walla County Deputy died last night after succumbing to injuries from an crash. He was in the crash on the 6th while responding to a call. Just so everyone knows, traffic crashes are are the number on killer of police officers."
...

*Should I tell on ourselves? (Angel on right shoulder: "Thou shalt not embarrass thy newspaper while gainfully employeed." Devil on left shoulder: Go for it.) Seems our contract employees who write columns and stories for Handle Extra and sometimes the main paper couldn't cash their checks this month. Nah, the Cowles haven't run out of dough. The accounting department inadvertently set the date issue for the check as "1970" instead of 2007 -- and the banks aren't keen on cashing 37-year-old checks. On the other hand, 1970 was a good year. (Hat Tip: Nils Rosdahl)

*My new Mac laptop arrived at the office today, complete with a cheat sheet. I'll probably spend a week or two giving it a shakedown cruise before I start popping up at local coffee shops and restaurants to blog live. Fun.
...

*Capt. Ben informs the SR this morning that the faux KCSD Web site has been taken offline -- you know, the one that included the "recent news" story about crime being eliminated in Kootenai County. Seems the county Information Systems dept. had inadvertently put the site on the air.
