Inside Huckleberries — 5/18/07

11:29 a.m., Construction work at the new Cabela's building at the stateline is going so well, Huckleberries hears that the store might open in late October instead of the current target date of Nov. 10.

10:35 a.m., Dan of the County called to say that local veterans should check into adding Sgt. Major Bradley Conner's name to the veteran's memorial at the county courthouse since he may be the first local warrior killed in action since the Vietnam War. DOTC wasn't certain of Conner's connection to Coeur d'Alene, although the dead soldier has been mentioned in news reports as hailing from the Lake City. He's a 1984 graduate of Kellogg High.

9:08 a.m., Rocket's Brain Trust e-mails: "Sheriff Knezovich is scheduled to be on the Fuhrman Show this morning (around 9 AM) reportedly to discuss recent Spokane Valley death case of Yoho. Regardless of the outcome Sheriff Knezovich is reaching out to the community to explain things he can discuss at this point. This is a total change in the climate re the closed lip administrations of the past."
