Kelly: Kids Show Love By Shedding Hair

Brian Plonka/Spokesman-Review

La Tourrette’s hair stylist Catrina Corbeill shows Mackenzie Richards, 11, of Hayden (daughter of occasional HBO poster, Kelly Richards) a lock of her hair Friday in Coeur d’Alene, during a cut to donate her hair to Locks of Love. Richards grew her hair out for over two years after being inspired to help kids with cancer after watching a television program. The several ponytails collected from Richards will be made into wigs for cancer victims.

Dave, thank you for running this here and for encouraging your editor to cover the story in the paper! I suggested coverage because Mackenzie had worked for so long and was originally inspired by another news account two years ago. By the response I've had to this picture, it seems lots of girls (and some boys, too) grow their hair to donate to causes like Locks of Love, mostly anonymously, without any recognition. On behalf of all those donors, as well as my daughter, thank you for drawing attention to these acts of love! This was a very personal donation for Mackenzie, as she'd "grown" quite attached to her long hair. But she loves her new haircut and really felt like she did something nice for others in need.
