Disclaimer #1: I am not a Britney fan. Disclaimer #2: Britney's performance was her usual awful, glorious, trainwreck self. I watched MTV's Video Music Awards purposefully to watch the Brit-Brit in what could have been a major positive moment. Her performance of her new song turned out to be just another link to an already long laundry list of stunning escapades. My thoughts, however, turned to the message that the media will be placing on this performance. Widely blogged tonight is the notion that Britney is out of shape. "Embarrassingly out of shape" is how she is referred to. I do agree that the skimpy outfit was not flattering. On the other hand, I am critical of the critics for saying the picture I have posted above is of a woman who is "embarrassingly out of shape." It is sad to see the media perpetuating the message that you must be skinny-skinny to be in shape. Tying her "shape" to the notion of success or failure is irresponsible of the Associated Press, where this verbage is sourced. Shame on you, AP! -- MamaJD
