Our Crime Analysis Unit began to see a strong correlation between some of our most violent crimes and some very bad repeat offenders. The Unit spent a considerable amount of time studying police reports and connecting the dots to documented gang members. Some of them have moved in from other cities, but we also have our very own homegrown gang members that have become increasingly more aggressive and violent in their activity. The Chief made a decision a month ago to dedicate a few more personnel to the detective side of the house and focus efforts on apprehension of our most violent offenders (stabbings, robbery etc.)In the two weeks that followed, the officers on loan had documented several gangs not just members, living and operating in the City. They were also directly responsible for several arrests in some very recent violent crimes/Sgt. Christie Wood, HBO.
