Wild Card/Tuesday — 9/18/07

It's a sign of general distrust of the media, I guess, that several people have asked me whether I truly wanted my new duties as a full-time blogger/columnist. Or whether I was demoted. Even my mother asked me that over the weekend. Now. Listen. Closely. My interest in the Editorial Page began to wane when we decided to eliminate signed editorials. I fought that move vigorously several years ago. Meanwhile, I started this blog and have been captivated by its immediacy and growing influence. With gale-wind support from Editor Steve Smith, more and more of my time has been shifted here. In a meeting with him earlier this month, he suggested that I leave the Editorial Board to concentrate of blogging and columnizing when I mentioned that I no longer had time to do things like the Huckleberries Gone Wireless Q&A on Fridays. The words were hardly out of his mouth, when I said: "Let's do it." He then left it up to me whether I wanted to keep doing "Hot Potatoes" on Thursdays. I decided not to do so b/c it really doesn't fit in my new Huckleberries Only world. I've envied colleagues who had full-time column gigs. Now, I are one of them -- and it's hard to stop grinning. Now, for your Wild Card ...
