Wondering: Doesn’t Term CAVE Violate Blog Rules?

re: Des Moines Register blog rule against "Derogatory phrases to define a group of people.

Wondering: DFO, can you stick to the one about "derogatory phrases" concerning groups? Your CAVE reference is a classic example. It brushes anyone who wants the city and county to follow the law with the same brush. I find it a dangerous term as it intimitates people from speaking out in their own name. It creates prejudice and its a harmful label. Now you know how I really feel.

DFO: Wondering brings up an interesting point. CAVE -- or Citizens Against Virtually Everything -- definitely marginalizes a group of individuals, led by council candidate Dan Gookin, who opposes the Lake City Development Corp, certain aspects of the Kroc Center, and some library funding. It's not a new term. It's not a new term. It's in general use among those who oppose the agenda of Gookin & Co. In this instance, I'd say it's descriptive of the ringleaders. I'd hate to muzzle legitimate criticism of a high-profile group with a public agenda to win council seats. Mebbe they wouldn't have the name if they'd change their ways. BTW, this is a guideline from the Des Moines Register. Not a current guideline for this blog.

Question: What do you think?
