DOTC: Voter ID Fair, Reasonable

I was glad to read the Supreme Court will be hearing a case about requirements for Voter ID’s. As the county elections guy I am glad it will apparently be settled before the 2008 elections even though Idaho does not require voter ID’s at this time. Here are a few thoughts I have about this very important issue.
1. Many, many actions in our society require official ID these days. Most have far less consequences then voting, especially the chance of fraudulent voting.
2. While I have not seen much evidence of voter fraud in our county or anywhere else in Idaho, that does not mean it doesn’t or couldn’t exist. Common sense says that the greater number of people on the voter rolls the more odds of someone trying to cheat.
