IVA: Expect Dem Crossover Against Sali
Because the legislature did not enact legislation enabling the Republican Party to close its May 27 primary, which is required by party rules, Democrats and independents will be able to cross over and vote in the GOP primary even though they have no affinity for Republican Party principles. Expect Matthew Salisbury (shown being hugged by his kids after his return from Iraq in October 2005) to draw unexpectedly high numbers, in his challenge to incumbent Bill Sali, despite a campaign that’s been barely visible to this point. In the 1990s, due to crossover voting, Helen Chenoweth’s primary opponent got 30% of the vote one year despite the fact that shortly before the election he took his clothes off during an interview with Channel 7 and had to hauled off to the psych ward of a local hospital/Bryan Fischer, Idaho Values Alliance.
