Popkey: Obama Making “Government Cool Again”

Obama has hooked voters like 26-year-old Cory Steinmetz, who skipped the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections but got up at 6 a.m. Saturday to see Obama in Boise. Steinmetz, 26, an engineer at Micron, came with friends from Boise's First Baptist Church. On Friday night, he and his wife, Mandy, hosted a young-marrieds group at their home. Around 11 p.m., the group decided to come see Obama. "Everyone has a lot of energy," Steinmetz said. "And it's given me the energy to get out and vote." Steinmetz calls himself a conservative; his favorite in the Republican contest is Rep. Ron Paul. "But the last few years the Republicans haven't followed my Republican values - small government, humble foreign policy, fiscal conservatism. That's why I'm here"Dan Popkey, Idaho Statesman. Question: Do you still have faith in the U.S. government or have you become a cynic who believes all parties and politicians are more concerned about power, prestige or money than public service.
