EOB: Solons Torpedo Boat Safety Bill
Idaho’s state Department of Parks and Recreation came in with legislation today to improve boating safety in the state, but ran into a hornet’s nest of questions and objections from lawmakers after they saw that the bill wouldn’t let anyone under 14 operate a boat or personal watercraft unless directly supervised by an adult; would have required everyone in the future, including adults, to have passed a boater safety course and carry certification with them to operate on Idaho waters; and would have made it illegal to violate Coast Guard navigation rules that lawmakers on the committee had never seen and that weren’t listed in the bill/Betsy Russell, Eye On Boise.
