Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong, 23, of Kennewick, Wash., appears Monday during preliminary hearings in Benton County Superior Court in the stabbing death of pregnant Araceli Camacho Gomez, 27, of Pasco. Sisouvanh is being held on investigation of aggravated first degree murder. Court documents allege Synhavong also cut the unborn baby from Gomez's womb. Story here.

Medical Copter Crash: One of the people killed in a fiery crash of two medical helicopters near Flagstaff, Ariz., on Sunday was a firefighter from western Montana. Michael McDonald, 26, was from Browning and also had attended school at the University of Montana. McDonald was working on the Chief Mountain Hotshots, a fire crew out of Browning, on the Walla Valley fire in Grand Canyon National Park, fire information officer Punky Moore said Monday/Missoulian.
