More Info: Democratic Sen. Patty Murray and Republican Rep. Doc Hastings engaged in a bit of bipartisan asparagus boosting when they heard about the president’s praise of German shoots. When Bush got back from Europe, they went halfsies on a case of Washington asparagus and had it flown to D.C., where staff kept it well-watered until it could be delivered to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
