DeePee: Only Way To Brew Coffee
RE: HBO Poll: Home brewed or barista brewed?
Working at home brings the luxury of brewing at home. You get to drink out of a porcelain cup, and savour the aromas of your own ground beans. Start with decent whole beans: we get ours at the Minneapolis airport (apologies to Sen. LC) at the Caribou kiosk. You can also internet order them. Best this side of Kopi Luwak, IMHO. Throw away that fancy electric bean-smasher and get a good old-fashioned burr-grind hand-grinder, a nice mix of brass, case-hardened steel and woodwork -- Zassenhaus (Germany) or Peugeot (France) make the best hand-grinders, under $70. Pour the requisite beans into the grinder, swing the handle as fast as you want. A hand-grinder generates no heat, and no bitterness, and you're making friends with your new brew/DeePee. More here.
Question: Can anyone improve on DeePee's approach to brewing his own coffee with hand-ground beans?
