Clifford Helm, who blamed a medical conditon for causing an accident that killed five children, was acquitted today by a Spokane County Superior Court jury. Prosecutors argued that Helm's negligent use of a cell phone caused the tragedy. Helm, 58, faced five counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault in the Nov. 1, 2005, head-on crash north of Spokane near the intersection of Hatch Road and U.S. 395. The crash killed five children of Jeffrey and Carolyn Schrock: Carmen, 12, Jana, 10, Carrina, 8, Jerryl, 5, and Craig, 2/Spokesman-Review. More here
