Big Mac: Don't Build Public Policy On IVA Poll

re: Poll: Only 12% of Idaho would pick public ed/Idaho Values Alliance

Everyone wants higher academic standards, until their kid fails a class or gets a lower grade. Look at the Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy. Every single kid attends their because their parents want more demanding classes for their kids. The classes are tough, but just about any kid can do well in them. And yet after four years each class shrinks amazingly. We start with 75-100 freshmen, and we rarely graduate more than 30. You can have that kind of attrition rate at one charter school. But you can't have it statewide. Would we accept a 70% dropout rate? Of course not. So it's an interesting poll, but I don't see how you can build public policy on it/Big Mac. More here
