MeghannC: Memories Of The Derby

I’ve never been to the Derby but I went to Churchill Downs and to all the horse racing sites in Kentucky during a family trip when I was 11. My dad was BIG into horse racing; he even took us to a famous racehorse cemetery. We saw 1958 Derby winner Tim Tam’s grave. Dad took some grass off his grave and we buried him with it. There’s a famous family photo of my dad with my oldest brother when he was about five with Secretariat. Mom still has the box with a few of his oats in it. My dad had the names of all the Derby winners, their owners and their jockeys memorized/Meghann M. Cuniff.

Postscript: Eight Belles placed but sadly injured herself and had to be put down…These graceful, beautiful and powerful animals are also extremely fragile and easily injured. Too many die in this “sport”/Eagle Keeper.
