Spokane Man Claims Popcorn Led To Disease

Item: Spokane man's suit claims popcorn led to lung disease: 'I would eat four to six bags a day'/Andrew Schneider, Seattle PI

More Info: Popping and eating four to six bags of popcorn a day has been blamed for damaging the lungs of a Spokane businessman. Larry Newkirk has been diagnosed with the sometimes fatal lung disease called bronchiolitis obliterans. The disease, which can often be treated only with a lung transplant, has been diagnosed in scores of workers in factories where a chemical butter flavoring called diacetyl is used. Newkirk is the second consumer in this country to ever be diagnosed with bronchiolitis obliterans, although other home users of popcorn are undergoing medical evaluation at this time.
