Chapman: The End Is Near?

It is hard to understand Western culture’s fascination with doomsday scenarios. What brings this to mind is the current film “2012.” If one watches any TV, one has to be aware of the premise of this film before it came out. Prophecies from Nostradamus, the Mayans and who knows who else are put together to make this seem a possibility. These prophecies coincide with the galactic alignment. This alignment happens when our sun’s plane is directly opposite the center of our galaxy. This rare celestial event occurs every 25,800 years. It is an interesting event that should be celebrated, not cheapened by sensational warnings of doom/Jean M. Chapman, Moscow-Pullman Daily News. More here

Question: Do you believe a catastrophic end-of-the-world scenario will occur in your lifetime?

I watched a History Channel deal on the 2012, world is going to end, thing. It is remarkable that the particular date, 2012, was the time picked by many civilizations. And in all parts of the world. They all said the same thing but the Myans pinpointed it to Dec 21, 2012. Very interesting program.

If it happens in 2012, I will welcome it. If not, I will go on. The world will definitely end one of these days, I hope we are all prepared.

You mean like Al Gore’s head exploding with the resulting void creating a black hole that sucks in all sentient life on earth? That’s about as likely as any of the popular 2012 theories.

Endtimers have always been with us, and always will. It’s best to ignore them.
