Cheyenne: Breaking Up Hard To Do

There was a chap on the quiet level of the library talking on his cell phone at an entirely inappropriate volume level, but this is not what was of note. It was the conversation, not his complete lack of library etiquette, that was interesting. He was having a rather lengthy moan about being dumped. Apparently, if one was to believe him, not only does he deserve better than her but she was a tramp anyway. What made the conversation a tragedy of comical proportions had to be the fact this gentleman had only been dating the woman in question for two months and their break up was over a month ago. I have been known to grind an axe or two but surely holding a grudge like that can only be considered unhealthy/Cheyenne Hollis, UI Argonaut. More here.

Question: Were you ever dumped by a sweetheart? How did you get over it?

Many of us were dumped by our sweethearts as soon as we went to Vietnam. Hence the term Dear John. Did I ever get over it? No, but life went on and to this day, believe it or not, we are still friends.

Oh - I just remembered - I was in Albertsons maybe a month or more ago and it was early on Sunday morning. This woman and I were in the same aisles at the same time - at one point she looked at me and she had tears - she says “I was just broken up with by text” - I felt SOOOO bad for her. I gave her some words of encouragement - you know ‘well the guy is just scum’, you know, things like that. It was just such a raw moment for her and I felt so bad.

So I hope for her that she has some guy on her arm now that is 10 times the one that broke up by text. And for him I hope for many nights at 2:00 am, bar closing, and not a girl in sight.

When stationed in Kodiak Alaska, I got my “dear john” letter. She was attending B.C. Nothing I could do or say, so being a sailor, I sailed on. Yes it hurt but then who said life was all peaches and cream. I hold no ill will.

Me. Any guy that would break up via a text message wasn’t worth having around anyway. She dodged a bullet and was fortunate she found out early, imo.

I’ve been dumped several times. Once I didn’t even know it until I saw him show up somewhere with his new girlfriend! SOB had told me he was going to be busy with a school project and was going to be unavailable for a while. Yeah right! At least the other two guys who dumped me later had the decency to do so in person without sneaking around on me.

I got over it by saying “screw them” and going out and having fun on my own, with my friends and being glad I didn’t have losers like that in my life anymore :D
