Lonely, I’m Mr. Lonely

Item: Loneliness May Be Catching: Study suggests that ‘less affirming,’ isolating behaviors jump from friend to friend/U.S. News & World Report

More Info: A new study suggests that lonely people attract fellow “lonelies” and influence others to feel lonely, too. “Loneliness can spread from person to person to person — up to three degrees of separation,” said James H. Fowler, co-author of the study published in the December issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and professor of political science at the University of California, San Diego.

Question: Do you experience below/above/average loneliness?

It never does any good to feel “loneliness”, because you realize how lonely you really are. So it probably doesn’t help any if you try to answer a question like this. I’ve always thought that Life is the art of passing time, so I hang onto what’s gotten me this far down the road…music, guitar, meeting people, enjoying the scenery. I think animals have the right idea…they hold no grudges, feel no guilt, live for the “now”, and do what they do. Sometimes it seems like there’s a big price to pay if you’re a human being. We complicate everything.

“Mr. Lonely” is a Bobby Vinton song from 1963. A very big hit. Bobby’s “There! I’ve Said It Again” was the last Number One Song before Beatlemania set in. He always chose really great songs to do, and that’s why he stayed popular when other singers faded away. His music used to be on the radio constantly back in the ‘60’s.

The Beatles, as usual, said it best:

    “Yes I’m lonely, wanna die.
    If I ain’t dead already.
Ooh girl you know the reason why.

    In the morning, wanna die.
    In the evening, wanna die.
    If I ain’t dead already.
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
    …”

I rarely, if ever, experience lonliness. I actually like to spend a fair amount of time alone. I find it energizing, rather than depressing.

There is a huge difference between being lonely and being alone. I crave my private time. It’s wonderful to just be my own company.
