Wild Card/Tuesday — 12.1.09

SR buddy Becky Nappi e-mails: “I’m doing a New Year’s story on two people who changed their career lives rather dramatically, one went from business exec to head of a nonprofit. The other was a teacher who now details cars. I’m trying to track down a North Idaho person who might have made a similar change, not out of necessity but out of desire. Do you think any of your HBO readers know anyone like this? Can you help me find one (that’s all I need) or suggest an efficent way.” Anyone know someone who fits Becky’s description? While you’re thinking about it, I’ll post the Wild Card …

OK for all you out there tired of CDA city, the drudgreport is saying those climate gate number fudging scientists who were having so much sex with the global climate numbers are now under investigation. Sounds like they may get charged with some L and L. Global warming, what a kroc.

I just read where the IPCC cheif scientist stepped down pending the results of an independent investigation…

You still have time to head to Appleby’s in CDA, have a drink and/or dinner and at the same time contribute to Mike Kralicek’s tricycle fund. Today only, Appleby’s is allocating 10% of your bill to Mike. And, since my bill was only about $9, I ask if they had a way to kick in a little more than 90 cents. Sure ‘nuf. They have “an envelop in the back” for cash or checks. They can’t do the “extra” on a credit card, tho’.

DFO put up the “coupon” yesterday (I think it was) and OTV has it on the Get Out! site. But Appleby’s had a little stack of them at the front desk, too.

Seems that some bonehead went through the parking lot at the courthouse at the end of they and slashed a bunch of tires on about 14 vehicles. One of my wife’s clients had two slashed and another person she knew had all 4 slashed. Can’t believe some people!

For all of you who have been so supportive and encouraging throughout the past 9 months, thank you. I have finished 6 rounds of chemo, 33 radiation treatments and begin the 5-year anti-hormone therapy today. Without fail, your prayers and good wishes and thoughts have gotten me through. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

((Chatterbox)) That is amazing. Wish you could have made it to Stickman’s, Saturday, but am hoping and praying to see you cancer-free at Blogfest.
Would be the perfect time to celebrate!

Good job Chatterbox. I know that is tough tough stuff. My mother-in-law went through it to battle brain cancer. We’ll keep the prayers going at the Bent household… (BTW, I haven’t heard from you lately. Hope all is well…)

We visited Bayview on Saturday. I would have loved to been at Stickman’s, but there’s only so much my 84-year old mom could handle in one day. I do look forward to the 2010 version of Blogfest, tho.

Chatterbox, that rocks… and don’t be shy about heaping praise on yourself, too- it takes an extreme amount of courage and inner strength to get through such a grueling regimen as what you’ve described. Good job!!!

And while we’re on the subject of good news… (cheesy segway, I know) I went to my Orientation, Advising & Registration Session (aka OARS) last night at NIC. It went SPLENDIDLY! Not only did I get all the classes that I wanted, I was able to schedule them in a way that my afternoons will always be free, and on class days, I won’t have any more than 15 minutes or so waiting time in between. Cool, huh?

Majoring in Secondary Education (can’t double major til BSU, where I’ll be taking on Social Work as well) entails most of the basic pre-reqs: so for my first semester, I’m going for Eng. Comp., Algebra, and Speech Comm. Those are the biggies, 3 creds each. Then I loaded up on CAOT classes (online tester-outers) like Keyboarding, Word Processing 1, 2, and 3; for an add’l 4 credits.

I’ll be a busy lil bee, I know- someone once told me that in college- and I remember this myself from my first go at it- that for each credit consider it one hour of class time and at LEAST 2 hours of studying… so with 13 credits for now- I’ll possibly be adding more CAOTs as I test out of them- I’m looking at the equivalency of a full-time job, for sure. 39 hours if I do it right.

So y’all wish me luck in my new venture, and I’ll keep you posted!
