I’ll be turning over the controls of HBO Central to CindyH for a few hours today — from 11:15 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. The class of 1984 — the staffers who joined the SR in 1984 — will be honored for 25 years of service with a nice lunch in downtown Spokane. I get a gift, too. It’s been a long, mostly good ride to this point (although the last 8 years have been taxing as the newspaper industry began its struggles to survive). My career hits the 40-year mark in 2010. Dunno how much longer I’ll be doing this. But it’s still a fun ride. I guess I’ll get off this bucking bronco when it’s no longer fun to show up for work. Now, for your Wild Card …

I noticed that Larry Spencer dropped by for a quick post last night. It would be nice if Larry came back and talked about the Kralicek smear campaign.

A pink slip? (just kidding, Congratulations!)

Had to chuckle when I read this line in Kerri Thoreson’s Main Street column in the Press:
“One of the most petite members of the team and a recreational caver…”
Kerri’s whole column below. (BTW, I really like the community tidbits focus she has with her blog/column):

Wonder how this goodwill donation would be recorded on that taxes?

Happy Anniversary, DFO
DFO on December 02 at 3:19 p.m.
Gracious! I’ve been hitting too many milestones of late — 25 years with the SR, 40 years in the newspaper business (in 2010), 35 years married (next June), 60 years old (as of Nov. 20). As long as I don’t find a grave marker too soon, I guess, it’s all good. Speaking of good, CindyH deserves another hat tip for another fine subbing job.

Cindy always gets a hat tip, and you DFO, as well.

Where, oh where has Kage Mann been?
Without him my heart feels so empty within.
It’s too calm in here without his ill-informed dramas,
I miss his lack of spaces and misplaced commas.
//Move over, Bard, OK, maybe not.

Thanks Cindy. That was fun.

@ OrangeTV re: “Where, oh where has Kage Mann been?:
Ever notice how Kage Mann disappears when Spencer does? I don’t think he’s been spotted at OpenCDA.com or the online Press either. Mebbe we should file a Missing Pseudonym report?

Congrats DFO!
How many other 25 year anniversary folks were there? Writers or production folk?
I’ve got a friend that’s worked on the S/R presses for over 30 years.

Sterling work, DFO. Happy silver anniversary and hoping you get a lump of mint-grade Ag (lustrous white, ductile, malleable metallic element) in your stocking Dec. 25 to boot.
Allow me this odd segue to eBay’s Black Friday map of shopping activity on its site across the U.S. in case you haven’t seen it. http://www.ebayholiday.com/black-friday
Spokane and CDA lit up the map…a little. Make merry, buy local.

@ Spoke re: “How many other 25 year anniversary folks were there? Writers or production folk?”
21 SR workers remain from the ‘Class of 84’ but only 4 of them are journalists — Jim Allen (of the Voices), business writer Bert Caldwell (who was regional editor of the CdA bureau) when I arrived, North Idaho preps writer Greg Lee, and myself. About 60 attended the event in the Spokane Club, including Publisher Stacey Cowles. I gave a short speech, opening with the comment that it was nice to visit the Spokane bureau of the Coeur d’Alene Spokesman-Review. Sometimes, I can’t help myself.

I’ve been trying to stop from posting anything negative about Obama and his administration, since there are so many on the blog that don’t like it when I do that. So, instead, I have been looking for any good things they might have done recently. Problem is that I can’t seem to find anything. So, I was thinking, maybe some can find something positive to post about Obama and give us something to discuss. Has he done anything good for our Country lately? What might that be?
keithincda on December 02 at 7:29 p.m.
C’mon HMO, we asked that question when Obama was running for Prez. You know, show/tell me what he has done that justify electing him?
But they couldn’t cause they were too busy trashing any and all of his opponents. Typical liberals, trash everyone else to avoid having to defend your guy.
But he did look good on the cover of GQ… ;)
spokelooneh on December 02 at 7:51 p.m.
What, no mention of the DeathStar, DFO? Bert Caldwell eh? Good company.

wow, keith you sure have gone over the edge a bit lately, why so bitter, miss he who can not be named?
keithincda on December 02 at 8:55 p.m.
your right Pheadrus, I’m starting to sound like you ;) Guess we should meet again so you can set me right.
He who can’t be named still owes me a beer too, though he’s got the new one to fawn over lately so I am outta luck.

From over at Opencda.clueless:
“We have to show our ID in the State and Federal elections but it is not required for local city elections.” I find this odd.-LTR
You know what I find odd? That this clown is getting all indignant about the “integrity” of Idaho elections and from this ignorant comment it doesn’t sound like the yahoo even votes!
I have never missed an election, Federal, State, or Local, since I have lived in Idaho, yet I have never—not once—showed ID of any kind for any of the elections. Has anyone else?
Phaedrus on December 02 at 9:19 p.m.

????? Don’t believe we’ve ever met.
Me on December 02 at 9:54 p.m.
Phaedrus - I have never had to show ID either. I know at times I’ve thought it was odd, but I guess if I had gone to my polling place and they said I had already voted then I would have had a problem - otherwise I’ve always been able to vote.

No, Idaho does not require voter ID for any election except for those voters who register and vote on election day.
Again this is an issue that would take legislative change in Boise and is not a local option choice.
TALKJOC on December 03 at 8:57 a.m.
Sorry I’m late on the Congrats DFO. Hope you didn’t have to pick up the lunch tab and that the watch’s time is correct more than twice a day.
