Inland Northwest college basketball teams rolled snake eyes Saturday, as three of the local favorites — Gonzaga, Washington State, and Eastern Washington — lost. Gonzaga’s loss hurt the most because it was close and because it was lost by a forearm shiver delivered by one of the Zags’ rising stars. No forearm by Elias Harris no loss. Then, he’s just a kid at 20. Josh Heytvelt did far worse early on. And each of us probably did, too. The Zags are still a fun team that’s a bit tougher this year and doesn’t quit. I urge you Hucksters to rest up today. We have another week of zaniness to enjoy when Monday rolls around. Here’s your Wild Card …

Mornin’ DFO. Usual blurker here. Had that first cup o’ Joe yet?
I wanted to urge you to rest up today too… Dorothy and Toto aren’t in Kansas anymore, and it’s not November either… :o)

Gosh. Why am I so stresed about Christmas shopping?
Apparently, in Huckleberry land there is plenty of time.

Re: Gonzaga, I don’t believe Harris’ move was flagrant but definitely a foul. The reviews showed his forearm (or elbow) being deflected upward to his opponent’s neck or face, appearing flagrant.
It gets awfully rough under the net in today’s basketball.

I watched the Zags and i re ran that foul over and over again, in slo-mo, on my TiVo and I couldn’t disagree more with Mr. Sausser’s position. It was as flagrant a foul as I have ever witnessed. Let’s not minimize this young man’s action and bad judgment, but instead let’s hold him accountable and hope that he’ll learn from this instance. What he doesn’t need is people telling him he didn’t do anything wrong.

Maybe Idaho can save the weekend for the Northwest teams. They take on #25 Portland tonight at 5pm in Moscow. It’s on TV (SWX). Vandals are 28th nationally in scoring, 4th in 3-pointers. Should be an exciting game!

I’m racking my brain and for the life of me cannot recall any dirty play by Heytvelt in his Zag career. Now, if the insinuation is that his arrest by a security guard in Cheney and following citation for possession of small amounts of marijuana and mushrooms is somehow comparable to nearly decapitating a person in broad daylight, well, that is debatable. The drug charge was victimless and petty. The forearm shiver was malicious and targeted toward another person. I’ll take the weed and shrooms over that egregious display of violence any day.

Man, I’ve been here too long. When I logged on the Wild Card said 11.6.09. Time flies!

Last Friday, Obama held his big ‘jobs summit’ at the White House. No mention of it here on HBO. All the bigshots who stand to profit from the ‘green movement’ were there. Unions, of course. Who was absent? National Fed of Independent Business, Chamber of Commerce and SMALL BUSINESS. Any job creation we get now will come from those small businesses, as they represent a very high percentage of jobs created. Obama still doesn’t get it and he seems more concerned with furthering his own agenda than actually creating jobs. This week he will be giving a teleprompter speech on jobs. This speech may very well define how fast we are able to recover with our economy.

Has Kageman been heard from lately? I fear he is in a sleeping bag in front of Freddy’s waiting for Sarah Palin. Come in Kage. It’s too cold out.

I watched the GU game too, and saw the rerun of the flagrant foul over and over. On just one of the reruns ESPN started the video a second or two sooner, and showed where the Wake Forest guy hit Harris in the face. I think it’s a classic story of the guy who reacts to being hit gets the foul. It’s too bad because that lost the game for Gonzaga. Hopefully Harris has learned a lesson. But I believe Mark Few when he states, ” Elias Harris doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.”

Some letters in the S-R today. Seems the “anti-war” (old) left were out in force denouncing Obama’s surging the war in Afghanistan. Just in case any of the writers forgot, Obama DID campaign on Afghanistan as refocusing on the War on Terror that started there and GW had abandoned to focus on Iraq. Well, they DID vote for the guy even though that is what he told them at the time. I VOTED for Obama because he has made promises on the Afghanistan front that I figured he would do his best to carry out. Do I have sympathy for the anti-war (old) left? No. And neither should the 9/11/2001 survivors.
Another scary letter in the CDA Press today. Anyone ever hear of the “Emergent Church?” A Laura Diteman got her letter published really frothing over this “Emergent Church” that quite frankly, I had never even heard about. And the way she opened up on it, it sounded as though she were even on the attack against the practices of biblical Christians, ref: Acts.
Anyone who’d know what the heck this gal was even talking about, discuss it here.

“Meet the Natives” on the Travel Channel is a reality show even those who can’t stand reality shows could get behind. So interesting to see situations and things we take for granted every day through the innocent eyes of the tribesmen. The American families that host them (and the viewers) end up learning as much about themselves in the process. Win win.

the AGW deniers (“Climate-gaters”) are in league with our former sworn enemy, the Russians.
“Was Russia Behind the Stolen CRU Emails?
Environment | Sun, Dec 6, 2009 at 9:05:08 pm PST
A senior member of the IPCC is charging that Russia mounted a sophisticated operation to discredit the Copenhagen climate change summit: Was Russian secret service behind leak of climate-change emails?
The news that a leaked set of emails appeared to show senior climate scientists had manipulated data was shocking enough. Now the story has become more remarkable still.
The computer hack, said a senior member of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change, was not an amateur job, but a highly sophisticated, politically motivated operation. And others went further. The guiding hand behind the leaks, the allegation went, was that of the Russian secret services.”

Oh, by the way, that myth that scientists promoted a budding iceage back in the 70’s? Complete bunk, the vast majority of scientific papers on the matter of global climate change at that time were confirming/predicting warming, or neutral on the matter.

Joan, the “emergant church” debate is a long story. They’re trying to be relevant, and tranitionalists are calling it hersey. There’s more to it than that… but that’s about as brief as I can think for an explination.

There is a dog living at shadle park for the last 15-18 days. Animals control came and trapped her sister but this poor dear is still there read below and help if you can thank you.
_______________________________________________________________________
There is some dry food under a tree just North of the shadle high school baseball diamond, next to a storage unit is a green john deer trailer this is a make shift bed for her, the tree is directly north of the trailer. She can be seen there sometimes. I believe she sleeps under the construction trailers on the west side of the high school. I tried to give her food and water yesterday but she is so scared she would not come to it. I left an opened can of cat food in the john deer trailer for her and went back last night about 7pm but she had not touched it.
Another Good Samaritan reported hearing a faint bark over by the construction trailers last night. We have all been calling her baby if she hears that enough maybe she will respond to it.
Last Tuesday Animal control captured her sister. The sister was the protector of the pack. So without her sister she is lonely and scared more then she was. Plus she cannot get as warm at night snuggling with her sister. This dog is a black lab whippet mix small and no body fat.
I was not impressed with the attitude of animal control Tuesday but realize it is most likely a really frustrating job. But leaving her alone was a mistake. Even now of they brought back her sister it might give her enough calm to make catching her a possibility.
Right now after being chased most of Tuesday by animal control, her sister disappeared, her body is most likely dehydrated and she is hungry, she is scared and needs help desperately.
If anyone captures her I will give her a good home she deserves it.
And the answer to the animal control guys question Tuesday “how stupid is she?” Not very.
