Hosack To Take Brannon Challenge

Huckleberries has learned from County Clerk Dan English that retiring Judge Charles Hosack has been assigned to replace Judge John Mitchell as presiding judge over the election challenge filed by losing candidate Jim Brannon. Dan of the County didn’t know whether the decision by Mitchell to recuse himself from the case was voluntary or not.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Judge Hosack set to retire at the end of the year? This would be a tough case for his replacement to step into.

“Dan of the County didn’t know whether the decision by Mitchell to recuse himself from the case was voluntary or not.”—regardless I’m sure he signed the order with all deliberate speed.

I think the Judge would be a great replacement, though I like John every much. Judge Hosack is my neighbor, and I think he would do just as good a job, though I haven’t a clue what goes on in the courts. The ones that are there are there for a reason, as they know what the heck they are doing, much to our chagrin. I wish I knew what the heck I was doing on a dialy basis, though my profession is somewhat simpler. Good luck to all involved.

Judge Mitchell has a habit of ducking tough cases. it is apparent he is concerned about re-election next year and doesn’t want this “hot potato.” I memory serves, Mitchell ducked a recent murder case (the shooting near The Torch) because of his “friendship” with the prosecutor as reported in the news. Hosack is safe because he’ll probably come out of retirement to finish the case and won’t need to face re-election.

fishwife, that is ridiculous. Mitchell has a known relationship with multiple people involved in this case; if he didn’t DQ himself I have a feeling you’d be complaining how he should have.

Sheesh fishhead, “ducking tough cases” I’m with Phaed on this one for sure and no doubt you would have bashed him if he didn’t.
Honestly it was a clear no brainer for him. Bannon and Kennedy go to the same parish, the very same parish as Brunning and the same as me, and the same as cabbage boy heck I’ve even seen capt Wolfie there from time to time but I’m not sure if he’s a Catholic maybe just a C&E Catholic. In any case some mentioned have worked together and very well may again in the future through parish activities and outreach programs that the church has.

I have to agree with Phaed, he has it right.
