State Sen. Mike Jorgenson this morning called on fellow Republican legislator Raul Labrador to withdraw from the 1st Congressional District race. Today, Labrador is planning to formally announce his candidacy against Vaughn Ward in next spring’s primary election. “Raul Labrador is an immigration attorney and admits to defending illegal immigrants in his law practice,” Jorgenson said in a press release. “He has been on retainer as an immigration attorney to the Idaho industries that support a ‘free flow of labor across America’s sovereign borders’ while at the same time serving as an Idaho state representative/Coeur d’Alene Press. More here.
Question: Anyone want to speculate why Jorgenson is making such an unusual attack on Labrador’s candidacy for the 1st Congressional District? (BTW, Betsy Russell is working on this story)
Labrador Makes Run for Congress Official
(EAGLE, ID) Signaling his intention to seek the Republican nomination for Congress in Idaho’s First Congressional District, State Representative Raul Labrador will make an official announcement on December 7 in Boise at 10:30 a.m. at the Idaho State Legislature Annex on Jefferson Street and later the same day in Coeur d’Alene at 4:30 p.m. (PST) at the Coeur d’ Alene Resort.
Labrador, recognized as a leading conservative voice in the Idaho Legislature, has officially filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to run for Congress. He has assembled a campaign committee and has begun fundraising.
“After a lot of thought and discussion with my wife, family, and conservative leaders throughout Idaho, I’ve decided to seek the Republican nomination for Congress in ID-01 and restore this seat to a proven Idaho conservative,” said Labrador.
“If one thing has become clear over the last 11 months, it’s that Democrat control of both the White House and Congress is not only bad for Idaho, it’s bad for America and our economy. Walt Minnick represents a vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and the terribly ruinous policies she and other Democrats are pushing on America.”
“More than ever, we need strong conservative leadership standing up for Idaho in Congress,” Labrador continued. “We need leadership that is committed to strengthening Idaho’s economy, supporting policies that grow our local businesses, and reducing the size and cost of the federal government. That is what I have consistently fought for as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives, and that is what I will fight for as the next member of Congress in Idaho’s First Congressional District.”
First elected in 2006 with 65 percent of the vote and reelected in 2008 with 69 percent of the vote, Raul Labrador currently represents District 14B in the Idaho House of Representatives. Labrador and his wife Rebecca live with their five children in Eagle.

Can’t tell you why, but can tell you he is right, check with the Idaho Dairyman.
DFO why is this unusual? because its in party?
scootermom on December 07 at 2:32 p.m.
Jorbbenson hates immigrants more than he loves his party.
That’s my guess.
redman on December 07 at 2:37 p.m.
Scottermom, hate is pretty harsh , where did you get that? and you happened to have left out the word ILLEGAL before immigrants. Now justify your defending of law breakers.
Fishwife on December 07 at 2:41 p.m.
I’m for anyone that Jorgenson is against. Shouldn’t a Hispanic Immigration attorney know the immigration issues better than most, or is Jorgenson cowtowing to the right wing again? Go Raul!!
moscow_minidoka on December 07 at 2:43 p.m.
“check with the Idaho Dairyman.”
Yes, we all know that’s a source of unbiased analysis. I wonder why they would complain, though, considering that many (if not most) Idaho dairies employ illegal immigrants at low wages with no benefits. You’d think they’d love having a guy like Labrador to guarantee them a supply of cheap labor.
In all seriousness, this is an interesting development. Is Labrador actually that much of a threat to the Idaho GOP establishment? Obviously he is, or else he’s failed the litmus test and has “gone rogue” against the wishes of the party. Whatever the reason, it makes for interesting politics and is very unusual…
scootermom on December 07 at 2:46 p.m.
As an immigration attorney, Labrador represents clients seeking to change their immigration status. There are laws in place to grant immigrants lawful status. Yes, even those who are here without lawful status. That’s what Labrador does. It’s a legitimate area of practice and he’s doing nothing illegal, or immoral. God forbid he should help a young person obtain lawful status when they were brought here by their parents as a young child and Idaho is the only home they’ve ever know. Or would you rather have them deported?
Jorgenson brings anti-immigrant bills every session, or so it seems. His loathing of immigrants from our southern border is well known.
moscow_minidoka on December 07 at 2:49 p.m.
Yeah, I’m with Scootermom and Fishwife. If Jorgenson doesn’t like Labrador, I’m suddenly more interested in what Labrador has to say.
Smacky on December 07 at 2:54 p.m.
“Justify your defending of lawbreakers”??? We do that everyday. It’s called an election. Seriously, what has this guy’s practice of defending any person charged with an offence have to do with his ability as a congressman?
Sisyphus on December 07 at 2:54 p.m.
It probably has a lot to do with the substance of the comment I wrote last week. This is fascinating cause its a wedge issue for Democrats splitting Republicans. Jorgenson couldn’t help Minnick more if he was trying. If Ward is going to take the hard line approach, he risks much. Not sure what stance Labrador is taking on immigration but I’ll be surprised if it is out of step with tea baggers.
redman, its ironic that this claim is being made against Rep. Labrador whose livelihood is made from LEGAL immigration. Scootermom made no such distinction and has nothing to defend.
LarrySpencer on December 07 at 2:56 p.m.
“or is Jorgenson cowtowing to the right wing again?”
Umm.. Raul IS the right wing of the party.
Maybe Jorgenson is just trying to sound tough on the issue because he keeps screwing it up every session with every bill he can get his hands on. I wonder if he isn’t working for the other side the way he keeps killing the bills he tries to “help” through the process.
mike_s on December 07 at 2:58 p.m.
Question is whether the Idaho Democrats will be able to take advantage of problems within the ranks of the Republicans.
LarrySpencer on December 07 at 2:59 p.m.
Sis, please refrain from the degrading sexual inuendo. I have always thought you were above that.
OrangeTV on December 07 at 3:04 p.m.
Larry, it’s too cold - where’s your muff? I bet you could use a nice, warm cup of tea about now…
Sisyphus on December 07 at 3:04 p.m.
Ah teabagger prime has returned.
I didn’t name them Larry. Just calling them as I see them. Or rather as they named themselves.
mike s—the one who used a successful recipe for that scenario is in office.
Sisyphus on December 07 at 3:04 p.m.
ROTFLMAO Orange.
mike_s on December 07 at 3:13 p.m.
Sis—forgot he was a Democrat.
Sisyphus on December 07 at 3:22 p.m.
LOL mike. Check often. Primary’s not till May. ;-)
bpoole on December 07 at 3:33 p.m.
This guy does not seem like the right wing of the republican party, but a little left of the status quo.
Smacky on December 07 at 3:40 p.m.
Really bpoole?? Mr. Idaho Conservative (Adam Graham) gave him a score of 100 on the conservative meter….better than jorgenson, btw.
LarrySpencer on December 07 at 3:55 p.m.
“Or rather as they named themselves.”
Nice try, but wrong. “they” did not name themselves, as I recall it may have been the daily kos that started that one.
You will be thrilled to know that several years ago, a certain Democrat refered to his party as the “scrotum-drag club”
You good with that? Great!
Soaf on December 07 at 3:59 p.m.
You get that same info from the source that gave you the Kralacek info Spencer?
LarrySpencer on December 07 at 4:10 p.m.
Wikipedia, Soaf.
“Teabagging is a slang term for the act of a man placing his scrotum in the mouth[1] or on or around the face (including the top of the head) of another person, often in a repeated in-and-out motion as in irrumatio.”
Soaf on December 07 at 4:13 p.m.
Answer my question Spencer. You made a statment. Back it up.
Or are you gonna run off and hide again like you did when you got called on the Kralacek rumor you and/or your ilk tried to get off the ground?
Soaf on December 07 at 4:16 p.m.
Oops, my mistake.
you and/or your ilk = you and the other teabaggers
Smacky on December 07 at 4:17 p.m.
Larry, they named themselves when they insisted that people “tea bag Obama” and had shirts of the same nature. That’s the problem with only knowing a small part of American culture, namely the very old part of it.
Sisyphus on December 07 at 4:17 p.m.
Heh. Keep trying Lar, but you need to work on your delivery. Context helps mucho. But your content leaves something to be desired. Try watching a couple Bond movies if you need examples of how to deliver a double entendre. Like Soaf for example. S/he did great on the other thread with the movie title “Teabaggers Eating their Own.” Its gold Jerry, pure comedy gold. Sometimes we just don’t see them coming. ;-)
And so you know, you can’t swing a dead cat on youtube without hitting a teabagger referring to themselves as teabaggers. Fox News was also famous for this. But the best delivery of the double entendre was Rachel Maddow and Anna Marie Cox last April. Let google be your friend.
OrangeTV on December 07 at 4:20 p.m.
Like I’ve said, if they don’t like the double meaning of the term, I’d recommend a name change for their little group meetings. It’s too entrenched in the mass consciousness to do anything about it now.
simpleton on December 07 at 4:43 p.m.
Spencer, you seem to object to the term “teabaggers”. Is there another name they would like to be called? If there is I know I haven’t heard it yet.
DFO on December 07 at 5:01 p.m.
@ Soaf; Spencer had nothing to do with the Kralicek rumor, other than to claim on Huckleberries Online and elsewhere that it was nothing more than a rumor, until MamaJD confirmed that she heard it being spread to a third party in her presence.
Soaf on December 07 at 5:09 p.m.
@DFO, I understand that. But Spencer was on this site vigorously defending the source of the rumor as not being true. When he was called on it, he crawled back under his rock only to reappear when the appropriately termed “Teabagger” came up.
Now he throws crap bombs and I called him on it. That’s all.
;-)
Phaedrus on December 07 at 5:23 p.m.
LarrySpencer, now that soaf mentions it, did you ever ask Gary Ingram if he was spreading the lie about Mike Kraelicek? Did you ask Gary what woman told him that lie?
LarrySpencer on December 07 at 5:42 p.m.
I will answer Phaedrus under protest, as I don’t like to feed the troll.
Phaedrus, I have not spoken with Gary in several weeks, so the answer is no.
Simpleton, I try not to label others, other than call them liberals or left wingers, so I guess it would be fair to call me a right-winger or conservative. And come to think of it, if I become a troll, feel free to point that out to me.
;-)
Phaedrus on December 07 at 8:24 p.m.
It’s not trollish to ask a question that you have avoided for weeks. thanks for the answer.
