Margot Kidder: Ax Max (Baucus)

“Baucus is the the most anti-charismatic Montanan in the state,” writes Kidder, a Livingston, Mont., resident. “The hideous truth is that this empty suit-person almost singlehandedly took the reform out of health care reform, has introduced and somehow passed more legislation to abet the cornucopia of crime that is our banking system than anyone else in Congress, and has stalled the funding of any, if not all, modern programs that would give financial lifeboats of one kind or another to families in need. He did it by pretending he was a Democrat and by hanging in there long enough to get appointed, almost by default, as chair of the banking committee. And he gets elected in a state with the fourth lowest per capita income in the country by consistently ‘bringing home the pork’/actress Margot Kidder, Counterpunch. More here.

Question: Kidder, who lives in Livingston, Mont., also says: “The lunacy behind the thinking of many traditional Democrats that any Democrat in Congress is better than no Democrat at all needs to be exposed and treated for the infectious disease that it is.” Some Idaho Demos would say the same of Walt Minnick. What do you think?

Never been much of a fan of Kidder … but she sure called this one correct.

Baucus is an Obama minion. He goes where the money and/or power is.

I only hope the voters in Montana realize he is not representing their best interests, he is represdenting the best interests of the Democratic Party.

Everything about Walt Minnick, to me, seems calculated - including his party membership. At some point he’ll once again need the party that brought him to the house - therefore there is at least an outside chance that sometimes he’ll vote against his apparent conservative beliefs to support more progressive views. So in my opinion he’s a better choice than a republican would be.

Baucus apparently doesn’t understand a very basic, ethical concept — conflict of interest — and shouldn’t be in his job. He did his girlfriend no favors by nominating her under such circumstances.

that Kidder would use the word “lunacy” speaks for itself.

Richard, how could you read that and get that this guy represents the interests of the Dem party? Geez, our education system must be a nightmare.

I sadly agree, that Demos like Baucus and Minnick in DC only add to our problems. At least when Idaho sends another Sali to represent us, we know what kind of snake we are dealing with.
If you stick your hand into a dark hole knowing that something is lurking there, it is nice to know whether it is a poison critter or friendly.

Minnick is done. No thoughful Demo will vote for him again. He should fess-up and declare for the GOP since he sees that hapless bunch as his “constituents” rather than those who voted for him.
