Gold Piece Dropped In Red Kettle

It appears likely Ted Morris will be Spokane’s No.1 Salvation Army bell-ringer for the third year in a row after somebody dropped a one-ounce gold piece in his kettle on Tuesday. “The guy gets out of his car and asked me if my name was Ted,” said Morris, a volunteer bell-ringer outside the Wandermere Fred Meyer store. “He put something in the kettle and said, ‘There is something special in there.’” Later that evening, the Salvation Army’s regional kettle coordinator, retired Maj. Tom Petersen, called Morris to tell him what that something special was – A $50 Liberty Eagle gold piece minted in 1998. And it came gift-wrapped in a $100 bill/Kevin Graman, SR. More here.

Question: How often do you contribute to Salvation Army bell-ringers when you encounter them in stores, malls, or on the street?

As long as there is money in my pocket, I put some in the kettle. If I don’t have money when I go in the store I usually get some change and have some for the pot on the way out. If my kids are with me, I have them do it -hoping I develop the habit in them.

When ever I have some spare change.

When ever the money is there and available. I gladly support those in need.

Good comments all, everyone needs to help those in need.

Always, but I always write a check and send it in as well.

How bout if everyone who puts their two cents worth in here every day, send whatever they can to the Spokesman Christmas Fund. You just may put a smile on someone’s face.

Despite my reputation on this blog as a cheapskate Scrooge, Spazz and I have a “change cup” at home that we collect our spare change during the year. Then, come Christmas, we spend an evening counting it up and distributing it to worthy charities, including the Salvation Army.

@ Digger; you seem to be your old self on the blog today — now that you’ve ditched the Moscow-Pullman Daily News column. Mebbe the weight of that column bogged you down somewhat. Welcome back.

It’s always good to hear from Digger, I hope he does well in this life and his heart has always been in the right place.

Last night I saw Bob Nonini finally do something I approve of.

My wife and I were at Albertson’s and Bob left the store in front of us, where he dropped a donation into the Salvation Army kettle.

Way to go Bob. Now please keep up the good deeds in January when you go to Boise.

If I don’t have a healthy chunk o’ change in my pocket, I’ll insert a dollar bill. I’ve probably given 3 or 4 times already…
