Ed Schaefer of Coeur d’Alene showed his support for Sarah Palin in the early morning hours of Thursday. He was in line to get his book signed at Fred Meyers in Coeur d’Alene. (Kathy Plonka/SR)
I just don’t get it. How could anyone think this woman could run our country? Aside from all the other reasons I don’t care for her, she’s clearly an opportunist who let the citizens of Alaska down by quitting her job as Governor , slapped her name on a book someone else wrote for her so she could make millions of dollars.
Although many people don’t care for politicians,I think we would all agree that we do want someone attempting to run the country, to know at least a small amount of what they are attempting. Sarah Palin strikes out, especially when she couldn’t finish her commitment to the people of Alaska.
oh, I don’t know why people are so upset about Palin. The media is playing her up and she’s soaking up the bucks … but they both know (media and Palin) that she isn’t a viable candidate to lead one of the major parties (the R’s will not nominate her). And for those of you who are eagerly awaiting Obama ouster in 2012, I would just like to remind you that many of us thought the it was obviously apparent that Bush was unfit for office in 2004 but the majority gave him a 2nd term anyway … I’m personally not going to give any credence to Presidential speculation until at earliest December of 2010.
I’m amazed at the number of liberals that are so scared of Sarah Palin that even though she holds no public office, nor has declared her candidacy for one, they still feel it necessary to put her down. what is even more interesting, is that some feel she is anti-intellectual and a snob, while they, themselves act the same attributes out.
Having said that, there is no way I would stand in line all night in the cold for anything.
Herb - I couldn’t agree more. I looked at every topic that DFO put out over the last couple of days that had to do with Sarah, and almost every one was immediately jumped on by leftist vitriole. It didn’t matter how innocuous it was (e.g “what is she wearing?”) the immediate response was hate. Sad, really. But also insightful.
Frankly, I don’t understand the undercurrent on HBO from some re: my decision to closely follow Sarah Palin’s visit to North Idaho today. Hello. She’s a national phenomenon, whether some of you want to admit that or not. Check out the coverage from the local media. Also, she’s from here. BTW, those of you who think she’s just cashing in on her 15 minutes or fame are thinking wishfully. She’s going to be around for some time. All of which is my way of saying that Palin is the story today. She was the story this week. And she’ll be the story for a few more days locally. If the New Yorker, Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, etc., are spending print and air time following her, then I’d say it’s a no-brainer that Huckleberries does to. Just sayin’.
Perhaps it was in response to the 24/7 coverage she’s getting here. For what? Free publicity for her book tour. Its enough to drive one to cynicism. Moreover, I find it the height of irony to spend all this media hype over Sarah Palin and then the singular post on the president receiving the Nobel Peace Prize focused on HIS lack of accomplishments. I feel like I’m in bizzaro world. And I really don’t mean to criticize just Dave, its a local interest story. I know what he’s doing and why he’s doing it, which, in part, is to illicit just that kind of response. But the provocation on both sides is apparent, as well as sought after.
Personally, I think your motivation for liking her can be summed up in the fact that your support of her as presidential material, despite any credential for the job, pisses off liberals.
I’m okay with all the coverage. I like celebrity gossip. She’s irritating in a somewhat enjoyable way. At least it’s always a good time making fun of her and her supporters. She needs a makeover though, her look is stale. A blond Kate Gosselin hairstyle might do the trick. She should consider a reality show for her next cash-in gig. I’d watch it.
@ Sisyphus re: “Personally, I think your motivation for liking her can be summed up in the fact that your support of her as presidential material.”
Dunno if this was directed at me. But it’s way too early to say who I’d like to see oppose Barack Obama in 4 years. Haven’t thought all that much about it. Frankly, I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t care all that much. The last presidential candidate/office holder that I’ll allow to disappoint me was Bush II. I’m not crazy re: the current office holder nor any candidate, including Sarah Palin, who might be lining up to challenge him in a coupla years. They all have clay feet. However, I do enjoy the banter from individuals who do care, on both sides. Palin remains a particular interest for me because she’s from North Idaho. Also, I sorta enjoy that mention of her makes some of you guys cuh-razy … on both sides.
No, it wasn’t directed at you Dave. You’ve adopted the kindly semi-neutral blogmeister role and that’s fine with me. But your last comment seems to shed some credence to pretty much all my assertions. ;-)
You must be psychic, CB. I’m so flushed with jealousy. Okay, not really. But I was a bit mad when Bravo preempted “All About Me” for the Project Runway marathon. I was so looking forward to seeing Barry and Michelle’s sloppy drunk make out session in a hot tub in Miami Beach.
@ Sis; I’m wondering when one of the Merry Hucksters from the Right Bank will complain re: all the coverage that I’ve given Keith Allred’s candidacy for governor today. ;-) <invisible ink=”” on=”“> I’m delighted that you D’s are giving me a viable alternative to the current office holder. Allred intrigues me, now that I’ve learned a little more about him.<invisible ink=”“ off=”“>
Thanks Dave. I certainly believe Palin is on the celebrity scene for the reasons Orange has indicated. I don’t fault you for that kind of coverage although it begs the question on her substance. Whether that translates into political power for her remains to be seen. There are several conservative cabals that are probably licking their chops over her telegenics, like those that got their hooks into W and made him a two termer. Since fear seems to be a prime motivator for voters, an LBJ Daisy type ad should work pretty well against her should she run. It should be interesting. I wonder what she’ll do after this?
I don’t fault DFO for the Palin coverage at all - it’s a legitimate topic to cover, and I don’t feel that it’s been over the top at all. As someone who is *not* a Palin fan, I’m not at all bothered by DFO’s coverage of Palin, which seems much more evenhanded and rational than some of the TV nonsense.
I’d except the same coverage if Tiger Woods came to play at Circling Raven. Oh please, please let us have a Tiger Woods Celebrity Extravaganza right here in N. Idaho!
“10 Reasons That Sarah Palin Could Win the Republican Nomination by Nate Silver @ 5:51 AM”
***5. The media will be rooting for her. She’s good for the bottom line; off the top of my head, I’d guess that an Obama versus Palin election would generate at least 20-30 percent higher ratings than Obama against Mystery Republican X. Also, some players in the liberal media may be rooting for her because they’ll assume that a Palin win in the primary could give Obama an easier path toward re-election”
