Keith Allred of Eagle is expected to appoint a political treasurer and file the required C-1 form
with the Secretary of State which will mark him as a Democratic candidate for governor in 2010, NewWest.Net has learned. Allred, a public policy negotiator and leadership expert who has won respect and praise from both parties, can’t officially file for office until March 8, but a preliminary fundraising committee is the usual signal that a candidate will run. Fifth-generation native Idahoan Allred, executive director of The Common Interest in Boise - a nonprofit, nonpartisan good-government organization - is a respected Statehouse figure who has worked at brokering compromises between political parties and competing interests in the state legislature/Jill Kuraitis, New West Boise. Question: Have you heard of this guy?

No, but I can’t stand Butch. So it doesn’t matter much to me who runs against him.

Oh yea. The legislature has sought his counsel on many occasions and he and his well thought out positions seem to be respected across the political spectrum. He was particularly involved in the discussions and various options for bills that were considered for closed primaries and other political/election issues.
If true, this should make for a very, very engaging and interesting race.
Wow, again if true, this would be some real fun for a change and present some vary viable choices for voters in a statewide race.

Yes, he spoke at the Coeur d’Alene Library, last year. I

I knew Keith in high school. We went to neighboring schools and participated in many of the same programs. I like what he has tried to do with the Common Interest, and some of my Republican heroes like Laird Noh are members. However, I think Keith is going to greatly reduce his legitimacy as the head of Common Interest by running for office. Frankly, I’m disappointed.

I’d be disappointed too if my candidate was Butch Otter and the opposing candidate was Keith Allred.
I imagine that Keith will probably transition away from Common Interest, to protect the non-partisan nature of that very worthwhile organization.

I’m surprised you haven’t heard of him Dave. He’s been a mover and a shaker the last few years and was able to bring consensus on some divisive issues. After last year, the Statehouse could really use that. Jill has some pretty choice quotes from big league Republicans regarding his credentials.

I’ve been a member of common interest since it’s inception and always had Keith pegged as a Republican. I’ve had coffee with him before. (Though he might be a Mormon and I was the only one with coffee. It was years ago.) He is ready to hit the ground running, knows the issues better than anyone in the state, and knows better than anyone else how Idahoans feel about the issues.
He’s the kind of personable and smart guy that will get people that have been tuned out excited about politics and feeling like solutions are possible.

I think I’ll run for Governor too.

It sounds to me that he will be a very viable candidate. .

What’s the population of Eagle, Idaho? Residents Vaughn Ward and Raul Labrador are duking it out for Dist. 1 Congressional primary bid and now a gubenatorial candidate from the same town. Interesting.

Well, I pretty much planned on voting for “Anybody but Butch.” Hell, I’d even vote for Kage_Mann just to get Butchie out of office, although I’m sure I’d hate myself in the morning.
Allred sounds like a good choice for Idaho.

Looks like a very viable and solid contender.
