    Just slightly short of brilliant.

What has Michael Ramirez added to the discussion? A gratuitous insult with no basis in fact, and a lame attempt to cast Obama as weak and funny-looking.

There is no way forward that does not provide an opportunity for arm-chair critics to take a potshot. Such is the legacy of the Bush/Cheney era. (The flip side of Ramirez’ take is, why do we need 100,000 troops to chase after 100 Al Qaeda?)

A more important issue, however, is the idea that only Generals have the received wisdom to know what to do about armed conflict. Civilian leadership of our military is one of the things that makes this country great.

Totally agree on the civilian leadership of the military.

However, how many times did Obama and the Dems criticize Bush for not listening to his generals?

And the notion that we only have to defeat 100 Al Qaeda in Afghanistan is ridiculous. Maybe 100 of them and several thousand Taliban who essentially stand for the same thing and shoot the same kinds of bullets at us as Al Qaeda does. The same Taliban who let Al Qaeda infest Afghanistan pre-9/11. If the Taliban are not defeated 1 surviving Al Qaeda member could grow into another several thousand.
