Idaho R’s To File Complaint V. Allred

The Idaho Republican Party has put out a news release saying it plans to file a complaint with the IRS against Keith Allred for the Dec. 10 letter he emailed out to members of his citizen advocacy group, The Common Interest, informing them that he was going to run for governor as a Democrat. Jonathan Parker, party executive director, said the letter was partisan campaign activity inappropriate for a nonprofit, and accused Allred of trying to “exploit the non-profit tax-exempt status of The Common Interest to further his own personal and partisan agenda”/Betsy Russell, Eye On Boise. More here.

Question: Izzit just me, or is this a petty reaction to a marginal misstep?

Oh, please, Jonathan. This is petty and stupid.

I hope this comes up at the State Central Committee meeting in January, so I can vote against it. These petty little procedural games go nowhere, and only distract from the real issues at hand.

While I don’t mind Jonathan as a person, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the first time I met him. It was at a meeting to elect officers at an organizational meeting shortly after the last Primary. He comes up to me, after getting off his cell phone, and informs me: “Bill Sali wants you to vote for [so-and-so] for Chairman.” You can try to convince me why so-and-so is the best person for the position, but nobody TELLS me how to vote. I was planning on voting for the other guy anyway, but, after that, had I been on the fence, I would have DEFINITELY voted for the other guy. A bad first impression, to say the least, and not a very effective strategy on his part.

It probably is an over-kill. But I guarantee you that the Dems would have done the same thing, or similar, had the tables been turned. IMHO. Doesn’t make it right, just remember that it goes both ways.

OfC is spot on, overkill to be sure, but in the politics of the day I am sure the Dems would be utilizing the same strategy.

    /Sigh.
