In a Lewiston Tribune story this morning, reporter Brad W. Gary tells of a confrontation between neighbors over a loud car stereo. A 21YO woman confronted her neighbor when he pulled into their apartment complex with his car stereo blaring. A few minutes later, she was allegedly was looking down the wrong end of a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol. After Loud Stereo Guy was charged w/aggravated assault and arrested, Lewiston police Sgt. Ted Piche warned: “If you have a problem with people playing loud music sometimes, be careful how you approach them.” More here.
Question: Have you had trouble with neighbors playing loud music in your ‘hood?

Only a couple of times was it a problem. I met the offending party and asked that the music please be a bit lower. I explained why, I got up at 4:30 and jokingly asked if he would like a wake up call? We both laughed, problem solved.

Yes. My area had a real serious problem. The guy just didn’t give a rat’s a$$ about anyone but himself. A visit from the Sheriff department and a threat from his parole officer solved the problem. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s better to call law enforcement than to precipitate a feud by direct confrontation.

Once, the kids who lived across the street from me had their stereo turned up so loud that I could hear cymbal crashes and bass guitar patterns as the sound came thru my apartment’s walls, over my TV’s volume. That house was located across the street from CDA city hall, where the CDA Police Department was headquartered at the time.
I’ve also had instances (from living in another apartment) of my neighbor’s stereo being so loud that knocks on the door were no use…so I took out a tennis shoe and began beating my walls with it, and that got their attention. Of course, one of the party people threatened me if I called the cops. So I called my landlord and he called the cops.
