UI Reworking Contract w/Robb Akey

University of Idaho athletic director Rob Spear says he and football coach Robb Akey have met three times about reworking Akey’s contract and progress is being made toward a new deal. No official announcement will be made, Spear said, until the Idaho State Board of Education approves the extension. The SBE meets next on Feb 17-18 in Boise. Akey’s contract discussion would have to put on the agenda by Jan. 19. “When it’s appropriate we’ll get that on the agenda,” Spear said. Akey is in the third year of a five-year deal that pays him $258,187 annually, among the lowest in the nation/Josh Wright, Sportslink. More here.

I hope he stays a while. I don’t know how much longer he’ll stay, maybe 3 more years? If Paul Wulff and the cougs don’t improve next year, I wouldn’t be surprised if WSU came after Akey.

I think that Akey will stay for a while. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but he seems like a man of integrity, and I would expect him to fulfill his contract at the very least.

I want him to move 8 miles to the West when there’s a vacancy at Wazzu. (hopefully real soon). Class act, Robb Akey.

I suspect that Akey wants to stay. And if Idaho can pay him he will.

If Idaho pulls off a consecutive winning year, there will be a lot of interest. I would bet WSU would be bidding for his services.

Idaho is losing a ton of starters, so he still has an uphill battle.

Over $250,000 annually to coach the U of I Men’s basketball team? Gosh. And he’s renegotiating his contract? Hello, Tuition Hikes!
