These are 2009 file photos showing Carlos Silva and Milton Bradley. A baseball official with knowledge of the trade says the Mariners have acquired mercurial outfielder Milton Bradley from the Chicago Cubs for expensive and underperforming pitcher Carlos Silva. The one-for-one deal was struck this morning, the official said, speaking on condition anonymity because the trade had not been announced. Just South of North explains significance of trade here. Trading an underproducer(Silva) for a ticking timebomb(Bradley) may just work to the Mariners favor. Seattle may be a contender this year, I hope.

Well, the Mariners should at least get some free board games out of Bradley.

Silva was dead weight in the clubhouse and regarding the salary cap. whether Bradley works out is not even a gamble, since just getting rid of Silva, even without compensation, was worth it. If Bradley doesn’t fit in, then we toss him aside and use the other payers that the freed up cash provides for.

Silva is basically a big gasbag. Milton Bradley is a character, but perhaps the team needs some ‘dynamite’ in the clubhouse to shake ‘em up. (No, I’m not advocating actual TNT; you know what I mean.) The M’s need some Characters in the lineup, and if Bradley doesn’t adversely affect the team, I’m all for it. Of course, I’d choose Pee Wee Herman for a pitcher rather than Silva…
