Huckleberries hears … that challenger Jim Brannon’s troops didn’t return phone calls — and, therefore, there was no meeting w/City Attorney Mike Gridley Thursday to try to reach a compromise in the 2009 city election court challenge. Dunno when they’ll try to re-set a meeting. If ever. Now, for your Wild Card …

So, does anyone know what happened to Kage_Mann? Is he hunkered down helping with the Brannon lawsuit, or did he freeze to death while waiting in line to see Sarah Palin? I actually miss his abuse of standard punctuation usage… kind of.

Well, Hmoff, all though I almost never agree with you, your posts here are written in standard English and you are usually polite and I enjoy having you articulate positions and ideologies that I disagree with.
I can’t say the same for Kage_Mann. His posts were usually incoherent, and if you asked for clarification or tried to remind him to write within the boundaries of standard English, you’d get called a “paper professor,” whatever the hell that is.

Sis. Since the democrats won’t even let the republicans in the room to discuss and negotiate health reform, they have few tools in their bag with which to work. One of the problems of having a lack of checks and balances in our government.
Sisyphus on December 18 at 10:02 a.m.
“Since the democrats won’t even let the republicans in the room to discuss and negotiate health reform,”—false again. Three Republicans joined three Democrats in the committee conference which drafted the senate bill. All out of proportion to their numbers in congress mind you.
So you’re ok with stiffing the troops to accomplish this political objective?

Annarbor.com has a very interesting story about a young man who became a teen-aged sex offender for relations with his girlfriend - and now faces up to a year in jail for living near a school.
Asks Matthew Freeman’s mother, “How many 17-year-olds have had a relationship with a girl a couple years younger than them? Come on.”
After blowing his chance for early release from the sex offender registry by violating his probation in a non-sex-related case, Freeman will have to register until 2028, and a recent visit by a state trooper confirmed he’s living less than 1,000 feet from a school.
“I’m getting labeled as a rapist and a pedophile,” he said.

MM, you might want to check your own paragraph before criticizing Kage’s lack of perfection in language. A careful look, I think, of his posts would show that they’re easily understood, whether or not you agree with him. And if you read even more carefully, you’ll find that a number of posters have a similar kenetic sense of comma usage.

MM. I can recall on one occasion, after having had lots of criticism thrown his way, Kage came back with a perfectly written and punctuated post. It was almost seemingly out of character for him. I thought it was cute and commented at the time. Perhaps his typing skills contribute to the problem. It is more difficult for some to get posts up than others.

I took a lot of flak at a conference once for pointing out that in the job market, the one who can spell and punctuate gets to be the secretary; the boss can get by without those skills.

Sis. It seems to me that the biggest obstacle to getting health care reform passed right now are the democrats themselves. What happened with Howard Dean? The Reid method of using smoke and mirrors isn’t proving to be very effective.

How did Allred’s talk go today at the Demo luncheon?
danofthecommunity on December 18 at 4:08 p.m.
On point one; yes I did have a shrimp cocktail, good for the protein thing.
Two, I was very impressed with him and his approach. More than many folks, I know what it means to run as well as win with a “Blue D” after your name in very red places. You certainly can’t win by only appealing to (or being appealing to) just Democrats.
You have to be able to work with Republicans and Independents. They must trust you and experience that you treat them with respect and treat their viewpoints as just as legitimate as yours even when you have mutual disagreements.
That’s the approach he appears to be taking and yet he drew some clear, even sharp, distinctions about how his approach to governance would differ from current practice.
I noted Dan Gookin there as well and had hoped to catch him before he left (I didn’t) to see what his take was, particularly in response to Allred’s emphasis on the wisdom of the founding fathers and their admonitions to avoid special interests vs. the interests of the broad scope of citizens.
I obviously enjoyed it and think this election will likely be much more engaging than any we’ve seen for some time.

Let me explain this to you, very slowly.
I cut and pasted a comment from Sis that contained a link. Unless such a link is shorter than one line, the link will get truncated. Such is how it has always worked here. The fact that you didn’t know that attests to your ignorance, or failed attempt to smear me for not knowing how to link. Laughable in any case, par usual.
EPA analysis? You mean analysis from an EPA ECONOMIST, who, I’ll grant you, did get his BS degree in physics, IN THE 1950’s, and has never been a climatologist.
Hmmmm, climatologists vs. an EPA ECONOMIST being cited by an evolution denying crackpot US Senator. The thinking people will go with the expert SCIENTISTS in the field, not some random EPA economist, who claims, against all the evidence, that global temps have not risen in the past 10 years, regardless of cause.

Got back from Avatar about an hour ago. As weird as this sounds, immediately following the movie, I didn’t even know if I liked it or if I didn’t like it. My wife was kinda the same way. There were some cheesey lines. No one is going to win any Oscars for acting. Those two things I knew for sure. And being someone that is typically hyper critical of those two specifics when it comes to rating movies, I was bewildered that I couldn’t decide whether I liked it or not. After getting home, my wife and I agreed that we were both a litle “sensory overloaded”. I was even fond of the characters despite the acting. I’ve now had some time to come to my senses and I can say the visuals are epic. There are movies you go to and walk away thinking the special effects were incredible-but incredible doesn’t even come close to describing the experience. “Special effects” doesn’t even describe how stimulating the visuals are. Go see it, but don’t for a second see it minus the 3D experience.
