Duke 76, Gonzaga 41

Dukes’ Ryan Kelly, top, fouls Gonzagas’ Robert Sacre (00), who was attempting to go for a layup, during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game in the Aeropostale Basketball Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York this afternoon. Ugly. Closer contest than the score imho, but ugly nonetheless. I’d like to see more minutes from Kong in the 2nd half. Foster looks good right now too.

I’ll say it yet again. Gonzaga will never be a big-time program until they get a big-time coach. Letting Duke go on an 11-point run in the first half, after leading by two, before calling a timeout, is nuts, purely nuts. Really, game over after that run.

Of course, east coast officiating doesn’t help as Sacre was fouled countless times and it wasn’t call.

Sad to see such incredible Zag talent wasted.

Sacre just fouled again and they called it offensive. Amazling. In fact, he’s been fouled so much he’ll have bruises after the game. He should yell ‘Sacre blue’.

    :)

I’m watching too, JohnA. I’ve got espn gamecast on along with the tv. Real time stats that are pathetic. GU shooting 25%, 50% from the line and 0-8 on three pointers. They didn’t come to play, today.

JohnA, totally agree with you. Really a pathetic performance on the big stage. I would say man for man Gonzaga has more talent. So with 10 minutes to go they are down by 24. So whats the difference ? Coach K vs Few ! A coach that has the full package vs one that doesnt.

The Zags look pathetic! They need a coach that will slow the pace when the opposing team is running the scoreboard.

I just turned off a Gonzaga game pre time expiring for the first time ever. Can’t blame Few for the disappointing efforts/decisions by most of the players today. Utterly depressed.

The Zags: A Coach Too Few:

Never uses first half timeouts to regain momentum: See Michigan State, Wake Forest, Duke, all losses.

Sits idly and calmly by as the refs kill his team. My God, man, do a Bob Knight and throw a chair or something.

Refuses to give ‘King’ Kong his minutes. Must not have liked “The King and I”, RE: exceptional guys from the Sudan.

Satisfied that if he can win 80% of his games, make a mil a year and go flyfishing in north Idaho, life is good and who needs a Final Four, anyway?

    ‘Nuf said.

Just coming across the newswire right now. Item says it is the lowest point total for Gonzaga in 25 years. Gonzaga is 1-4 at the Garden now.

    It’s basketball.

    Stickman made me smile :-)
    Nice perspective.

Ummm…. let’s not rag on Few too much. I’d say he’s a good coach in a great situation, cant put in defense to guard the three but it wasn’t like he was Art Shell out there. Come on, don’t be like Notre Dame fans.

When Duke can shoot the ball, they’re one of the toughest teams to beat. Gonzaga also chose to have their worst shooting performance (ever?) of the season. Fun times.

And it’s a game like this that kind of bugs me about college basketball. This really doesn’t mean diddly in the entire season since there are so many games and so many teams getting in the tournament. So ho-hum just one of the few L’s that will be on the Zag’s schedule. Kind of anti-climatic? No wonder College Basketball has seen its ratings slip over the years and college football has exploded. It actually makes me think that people know what they’re doing with the bowl system. Seriously.

Just got to Christianson gym for tri state wrestling finals. Hopefully I’ll still get some good sports in after that embarrasing blowout.

The Zags lost the game the days before. They actually appeared awed by the game before it was even played - including Few.
