Winter Solstice Wild Card — 12.21.09

Kerri Sandaine, a reporter-blogger for the Lewiston Tribune, called today to ask about a story that Father Andrew Schumacher told her about me during an interview. He told her of the interview I did with him in 1988 after he replaced the late Bill Wassmuth at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. I told her about an even better tale that came from that interview — one that I wrote about for print Huckleberries this fall. You can read Kerri’s post today about Father Andy and me here. And you can continue to use this Wild Card for your own threads …

Just read a funny. Jimmie Johnson has won Male Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press. A NASCAR driver. Perhaps the AP is shunning old standby athletes in the football, basketball and tennis genre.

SMU v. Nevada. This Thursday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. 5 pm PDT, ESPN.

First Bowl Game for the Mustangs in 25 years - thank you June Jones. And thank you Mr. DVR man for allowing me to tape this while my kids are portraying cows, angels, and shepherds in the annual Christmas Eve pageant.

    Go Mustangs!

Sandpoint still has snow. Much of it is a dismal gray color, and some is under water, but it is still snow. My forecast says this rain will turn to snow after 10:00 tonight.

When I went into Fred Meyer yesterday to do the last (hopefully!) of my Christmas shopping, Mayor Bloem was in the entrance putting in some time as a bell ringer. I snuck by her to grab an electric skippy cart, and on the way out… she graciously offered to help me carry my stuff out to the parking lot. Very nice lady.

And… wouldn’t you know it… the guy handing out free CDA Presses dropped everything he was doing to open the car door for me. Anybody who knows that guy, knows he’s a dedicated Press pusher. :)

Having a broken leg has definitely heightened my handicap awareness. Kinda like when Mavis pulled up to the curb at the mall entrance to pick me up, and inadvertently blocked the ramp for an oncoming guy in a wheelchair. Oops. :)

Hey-Hey! The solstice! Summer’s right around the corner! Well, it’s getting closer. 369 shopping days left ‘til Christmas 2010!

    Hallelujah!
My grades are posted and I’ve passed.
I really didn’t think I was going to pass a class or three this semester so I’m relieved.
Here’s to one hell of a semester.
