Eggnog: Yes or No?

This Low-fat Cooked Eggnog made with a carefully re-worked recipe is “simply amazing _ and amazingly easy.”

Eggnog ranks right up there with Fruitcake when it comes to having both ardent enthusiasts and passionate loathers. Here the SR Food Panel weighs in.

Are you and eggnog lover or loather?

I dig the nog. You can’t have Christmas without a big helping of Egg Nog.

I used to dislike it, but as I got older I started liking it, esp when it is spiked :D

We usually buy the store bought version which I like to cut with milk since it usually is to thick. Occasionally I will make it from scratch just as a treat.

I love the nog! Real or booze free. Mmm…I think I’ll have eggnog for lunch!

    Egg Nog?

    Belch!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PatrickH on December 23 at 12:04 p.m.

    Cindy,

Is that spiked nog or regular egg nog for lunch?

  • JIMMYMAC on December 23 at 12:08 p.m.

The nog is no good. Every year I give it a try thinking there will be a different outcome. Same nog, no good.

I heard a good description of egg nog (can’t place it though) that it’s like drinking mayonnaise with rum in it.

Actually, I want to like egg nog and agree with it conceptually, but like jimmymac I try it and am disappointed. Maybe I just need to find someone who can really make it …

Love the nog (alcohol free) and fruit cake, too! But, then again, I love liver and onions, too.

We love eggnog— all kinds. We’ve found a Christian Brothers Holiday Nog at Super One stores that has become a holiday favorite. Non-eggnog lovers would like this because it doesn’t taste like regular egg nog. Has anyone tried the recipe from the paper?

I prefer it mixed. Its a sinful pleasure.

Whoa - hold the phone. <egg nog=”” tastes=”” like=”” mayonnaise=”” with=”” rum=”” in=”” it=”“> Does this statement have a shred of truth? I don’t know what mayonnaise tastes like - I’ve never - ever eaten it. However, I had a little nog last night with guess what - TWO shots of rum.

I love eggnog - but it’s on my don’t-even-go-there list, along with chocolate, strawberries, and cheese. Not good for people without working kidneys.

Eggnog, about 50 calories per ounce!

    Mmmm-good stuff.

  • Ian on December 23 at 2:04 p.m.

I’m a fan. It’s a bit sweet so I like to water it down with copious amounts of bourbon.

  • spokelooneh on December 23 at 11:35 p.m.

Seems like the consensus is, is that Eggnog’s only palatable heavily infused heavily with alcohol. I try it most years, and the gag reflex kicks in, alcohol content or no. And there’s that whole concept about not eating raw eggs…They’re in there, right? Ewwww.

Now a hot buttered rum, mmmmmmm. Or a cinnamon spiced “hard” cider, mmmmmmm, as well.

  • Stickman on December 26 at 3:49 p.m.

Phaedrus: I used to like you a bit, but eggnog and fruitcake, thrown in with liver and onions. I love onions, but that’s it. I will try not to hold any of this against you.
