CDA Press: New Company to Offer Loop Tackle

Fly fishermen work the waters of the Missouri River near Wolf Creek, Mont., a stretch popular for trout fishing.

COEUR d’ALENE — Joe Roope, owner of Castaway Fly Fishing Shop of Coeur d’Alene and a small group of Northwest investors have created a new company, Nordic Fly Fishers, USA, LLC, the United States distributorship of Loop Tackle Design AB of Sweden.

Loop Tackle, located in Akersberga, near Stockholm, was founded more than 30 years ago by current owner and CEO Christer Sjoberg. The company designs and manufactures fly fishing equipment, clothing and accessories. More here.

Loop makes some pretty good stuff, expensive, like all the rest but good. I’m a pretty seasoned fly fisher and have fished hundreds of different waters from here, to ranging out as far as Fla. and been to many fly shops and many guide companies and saddly have to admit, personally, that the gang at Cast Away is the least friendly or perhaps the most snooty.
Fly fishing like many other pastimes carries it’s snobs, surfing, skiing, golf, just to name a few and those that partake in any of these knows what I mean about the upper snooty type. There are levels in all those groups that tend to cater to the upper crust and it feels like the Roope gang do that.
Of couse that’s just me but I’m far from a rookie when it comes to fly fishing but I won’t look down on anyone wanting to enjoy this wonderful sport just because they’re a beginner or unseasoned.

ejs, I concur. I’ve been in his shop many times over the years and have never been treated very well so I always leave and spend my money elsewhere.

I have never had a problem with the guys in the shop. Always very helpful. Especially this past year, when I broke the tip of my sage fly rod and the expected time to get it repaired would have taken up the season. They provided a tip that was superb and I was able to finish the season. They were very helpful and enthusiastic in getting me on my way to the rivers.
