Color me freaked out. Watched two people get shot in what appeared to be a random drive by on Sherman Ave. tonight in front of Titos, half a block from where I was standing. No details, sorry. Story here.
I always wonder where the local news is on stuff like this. Definitely something you’d think would be headline worthy. I’m definitely interested to know details. Seems to take a day or more before Spokesman reports, and then CDAPress just copies the same article the following day.
OK, to be more accurate, I didn’t witness the actual shooting but I watched the immediate aftermath. Was just leaving another bar on my way home and people were gathered around the scene and acting panicked - word spread pretty fast what happened. By the time I walked a few blocks to my car there were cops everywhere and the street was blocked off so I had to wait quite a while before I could go anywhere. Pretty intense at first until we heard that someone had nabbed the shooter. We weren’t sure if he was still possibly running around, maybe ready to shoot someone else. Scary stuff, and definitely not a normal kind of night out! I think I’ll stay in for a while…
Not to be critical, but I’d like to know what the Cd’A Police philosophy is on patrolling downtown. I just spoke with my son and his friends who were hanging out downtown last night. College kids are home for break and the downtown bars are packed for Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends. It would make sense for the police to be visibly present during these times for preventive patrolling. Standing on the corners keeping an eye on the bar scene just like they do in Boise. Like my son and his friend said…. “they’re gonna have to be there at some point anyway, so why aren’t they there before the trouble starts.” Makes sense to me. Let’s get it right for the New Year’s weekend… please. I support the cops and know they have a brutal job.
Rather than address the situation at hand, the scuzzbags over at OpenCDA chose to use the opportunity to pick on Sgt. Christie’s writing style. Low, but very typical.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it Orange, Nic, MM. All up for paper professorships. ;-)
The Underground is a dance club, the 2nd stop in the popular Iron Horse/Underground/Baja/Mik-n-Mac’s club crawl. It’s okay, rather spendy. It’s not a haunt of mine at all.
Look for a “self defense” defense. I believe that a records search would show you that the suspect has a concealed weapon permit. He argues with this group earlier. He is walking alone and meets this same group walking down the sidewalk.Threats are made. Suspect feels he is in danger. He pulls the gun in what he feels is self defense. Speculation on my part. The suspect better get a good attorney !
This one sounds all too familiar. How long ago was the shooting by the strip club after mic and macs? Where does that case stand, anybody know? These deals happen in Spokane about one a week. The big deal over there lately, seems to be knives and stabbings. Usually outside a bar at closing. What’s wrong with a good old fashioned fist fight? Worked for us old guys.
Wow, poole, that facebook page is open for everyone to see… it sure shows another side of the story… I am suprised the cops haven’t locked it down for evidence.
If the Moses Lake guys were laying in wait to “ambush” him, immediately trapping him, perhaps immediately assaulting him, no possibility for Johnson to retreat to safety, then, yes, he may be all right with this shooting from a legal point of view.
Not enough info released yet to make that determination.
Spoke. Sounds like there were a lot of people around hence, wouldn’t there be witnesses? And, if a group of people were there that later beat up the kid, wouldn’t they have prevented a life threatening situation? Meaning, no gun necessary? Like you said, its all in the details.
I’ve spent every weekend with Adam for the last 5 months this was not within his character. This was the first night I haven’t gone out and this happens I wish I would have been there so someone could set the record straight. All of the eye witness accounts from people who were standing 10 feet from the incendent can barely put together what happened.
It has become alarming to me how in todays society, some people are choosing to settle differences with a gun. It went from being a national problem and has worked its way to the CDA area in the last few years.

1. The two guys who were later shot were arguing with the man who had the gun
2. The guy with the gun walked out of the place after the argument and no one was shot.
3. The two guys who were shot had resumed the argument with the man with the gun after recognizing him from the initial place where the first argument (with no shootings) occurred.
4. There were two of them and 1 of him.
5. The booking photo of the suspect indicates bruising on most of his face.
I don’t think people should be carrying guns around. I’m not on the suspect’s side here. But who was in error here? The shooting would not have happened had the two guys accosted the guy with the gun. That’s my point.

Since the CDA Press is owned by a corporation that makes its money in the tourism industry don’t expect to see this story as a headline any time soon.

This is more like what seems to be happening frequently in Spokane. Yikes! It is spreading over the border.

There is quite a bit of information circulating on Facebook about this, including his name, some of the circumstances around this and what happened.

For the posters who get their jollies critizcising our local paper, the shooting incident occurred well after the Sunday deadlines of both papers.
I subscribe to both, enjoy both, but read the Press first for local news.

No word in the Press—surprised? But they’ve taken up the important issue of cell phone use in cars (like that hasn’t been covered).

It was huge, huge help. I was able to find the suspect’s name on the page, then confirm through the jail that the guy is the same guy arrested downtown this morning. Look at his mug shot:

I have never heard of the ‘Underground’. Where is it? What kind of place is it? Obviously, I don’t plan to spend any time there, but am just curious.

2. The guy with the gun walked out of the place after the argument and no one was shot.
