In a house with 5 boys, I have seen plenty of boxing matches, wrestling and overall fighting. I like watching something I don’t have to referee.

I’m a big fan of the sweet science. This fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather (if it happens) would likely be the top grossing pay per view event in history. Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant, Lenox Lewis, Michael Buffer. Letttttttttts get ready to Rummmmmmmmmble. A good pay per view boxing match is one of the few things I will “blow” $70 or $80 on. The MMA stuff makes me ill however.

There is more to boxing than just two guys hitting each other. It is somewhat of an ‘art’ form to those of us that appreciate that aspect of it.

I love boxing. It is one of my favorite sports. There’s nothing better than ringside live. To me, boxing is the loneliest sport there is. The boxer has only himself to rely on and more often than not, the body will give out along the way forcing the boxer to dig down deep to the core to find the strength to keep his gloves up. It seems there are more hard luck, wrong side of the track stories found in boxing. For many fighters, boxing was a way out of a hard environment. There is definitely more than just hitting going on. There is an entire drama that unfolds in a ring. HMOsuite is absolutely right, it is an art form. I have a hard time thinking of another sport that forces an athlete to do things that a boxer does in a hard fought battle to win.

MamaJD, you should watch kids wrestling. I have never seen a sport that requires more twisting, body wrenching, agonizingly long struggles to escape and exuberance at a well done move than Wrestling.

And that is just the moms.

“I have a hard time thinking of another sport that forces an athlete to do things that a boxer does in a hard fought battle to win”.

The sport of MMA. It makes boxing look boring. There are no more Haglers or Sugar Rays out there anymore to make boxing more interesting.

Still not getting the art thing.
Isn’t the goal to knock somebody unconscious?

    LMAO!

Kage — there’s an old school boxing coach down at the CdA Casino that has an interesting back story about Sugar Ray and other well known boxers. If you get a chance, you should chat with him sometime.

I’m not into the MMA stuff or the ultimate fighting stuff. As you can see, I get into the things that happen in and out of the ring besides the hitting. Cindy — you should see a live match with some true boxing fans to get a viewpoint on why boxing is a great sport. Beyond the knocking out.

    Okay, MamaJD. I’m in.
Seriously, it make a great column. Let me know when we’re going, only I can’t fly to Vegas or anything. Gotta stay local.

  • MamaJD on December 29 at 5:12 p.m.

I’ll give it some thought. I’ll look at some dates and see if I can’t put you in touch with some folks. ;)

  • Cindy_H on December 29 at 5:16 p.m.

Okay. Long as you understand I just want to WATCH boxing, not participate.

  • Kage_Mann on December 29 at 5:21 p.m.

MamaJD, has the CDA casino ever hosted MMA fighting? I’d like to see a live match.

just have your people call her people, that’s how it is in the biz…..;)

  • Cindy_H on December 29 at 7:04 p.m.

Kage: Don’t know about CDA casino, but my hubby and his friends attend MMA fights at Northern Quest.

  • MamaJD on December 30 at 8:44 a.m.

Cindy - whaddya mean you don’t want to participate? If you aren’t going to box, the least you could do is be the Ring Girl between the rounds. :)

  • Cindy_H on December 30 at 8:57 a.m.

Is that the person that rings the bell? I could get jiggy with that.

  • Kage_Mann on December 30 at 9:15 a.m.

I checked ticket prices at Northern Quest casino for MMA fights.
Ringside is: $75, Floor is: $60, Beer Garden is: $50. My gawd
I thought were livin’ in a recession; no wonder the UFC and others are making record profits. I’ve never paid more than $35 for any ticket to rock concerts etc.Shania Twain wanted $45 for a regular seat at the Spokane Coliseum and I wouldn’t do it. So, I guess I’ll have to settle for the Spike channel.

  • Cindy_H on December 30 at 9:20 a.m.

You know, Kage, I never inquired as to the price of those tickets.
Hmm… looks like I should be planning a spa day for myself.
