New Year’s Eve: Party or Poop?

At the Spokane Convention Center, Christine Mebesius holds a First Night banner as New Year’s Eve revelers gather for the start of the STCU-Masquerade Parade.

So what are you doing this New Year’s Eve? Partying like it’s 2009/2010 or staying home with a good book? Or maybe something in between?

Ringing in midnight by playing keyboard in the world famous Mica Flats Grange band - auld lang syne.

Is it old fashioned? Yeah! Is it great to see about 150 young people enjoying the evening void of smoking, alcohol and other drugs? Yeah!

Kid-friendly party, everyone out by 9:30 so we can get to bed at a decent hour.

  • scootermom on December 31 at 12:20 p.m.

Roaring fire, festive beverage, and sleeping dogs at our feet. A quiet evening at home. Sigh. I am getting old.

Party Time. The bad news is that I will likely be the designated driver. The good news is that I will be driving a Maybach.

  • Kage_Mann on December 31 at 12:56 p.m.

    Were going to a buffet!

  • JIMMYMAC on December 31 at 1:16 p.m.

    HMO-Maybach, eh? That’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout!

    Romantic night in.
Watch Zags crush Sooners (romantic? Yes, she likes GU as much as I do)
Me and Mrs making fondue listening to some stellar tunes
Drinking a good bottle of red (and possibly white)
    Hot tub and champagne

I am on call tonight, so I am just praying that everyone gets to and from where they are going safely.

Historically speaking, this is usually a yucky night for the Radiology Guy.

Kid-friendly movie night. Haven’t decided on the main feature yet, but there will be episodes of Twilight Zone, Get Smart, and Dirty Jobs sprinkled throughout the evening.

Also, some jam sessions with Beatles Rock Band, a board game or two, and plenty of pizza and popcorn to keep the old mom and dad awake until midnight. The kids have no trouble staying up that late.

Don, I have some fond memories of the Mica Flats Grange Hall and the many dances they had there. As a kid I could see the grange from my place. This was many years ago and I was in their 4-H club.

    Going to the Gonzaga game!

    Party or Poop?

Actually, since we have a new puppy, it will likely be a poop party. :)

Other than that, it’ll likely be a roaring fire and a good movie, and two people thankful to God we made it through another blessed year.

  • Cindy_H on December 31 at 1:52 p.m.

Two teens going out but its a sleepover and we know the family. Two kids at home, plus my mom
Prime rib on the menu and old movies without any swear words that offend my mom.
    No fire.
Unless I do something horribly wrong to the beef!

Don, several weeks ago you were having serious sciatic problems and had surgery scheduled, I believe. Did I miss the update? Does sharing your musical talents tonight mean you’re all better? And does Mrs. Don ever get to dance?

  • Don_Sausser on December 31 at 2:10 p.m.

Maybach, a fine new years ride, but better than that you will be driving in roughly 60 degree weather. Have fun!

  • Don_Sausser on December 31 at 2:25 p.m.

Hi Florine, Mrs. S and I danced at the Grange hall 33 years ago but she now prefers a quiet evening without her husband’s antics.

Thanks for asking about the sickie. The back pain evolved into serious sciatic nerve pain. Two neurosurgeons examined my MRI and could find no spinal cause so obviously they couldn’t carve in to fix it. It was so intense I rode a wheelchair just to get around the apt for three weeks while chomping on narcotics.

Now the pain has diminished on its own but it left the quad muscle (just above the knee) with only about 10% function. I now can walk carefully but the bad muscle allows the knee to collapse with out warning. Physical Therapy and I are working on it. Being short and fat the falling is tolerable, the getting up is a challenge.

So, we age and get what we get but make the best of each day. Just look around and see that there are many worse off, not complaining.

Fortunately, I chose a musical instrument where one sits to operate it.
    Have a good 2010!

Kage, yes, Mica Flats was (and is) a great place in the country to raise children. I was an active 4H photography leader for several years out there.

  • danofthecommunity on December 31 at 2:48 p.m.

The Mica Grange is always one of my favorite polling places to visit when I make my rounds on election day.

  • TLPoelstra on December 31 at 2:55 p.m.

Last showing of Avatar, 3D and then breakfast at IHOP…So technically, we will be in the middle of a really expensive movie when the new year rings in. Do you really think how you bring in the new year is how you will spend the majority of your time in the upcoming year? Because I don’t know if I like the precedence…Be safe tonight and hug someone you love!

  • OfCoffee on December 31 at 3:18 p.m.

Murder mystery dinner at a friend’s house. Hope I make it without falling asleep - it was a long night last night celebrating the Vandals in Boise.

  • JeanC on December 31 at 4:36 p.m.

Going to hang out over at a friend’s, eat good food, drink wine and hope to stay awake ‘til midnight LOL

  • poolman on December 31 at 4:40 p.m.

3” thick filets wrapped in bacon, skewered jumbo prawns, (my version of surf and turf) a little vino, GU game, then probably in bed by 10:30. The holiday starts tomorrow with the Rose Bowl.

  • Cindy_H on December 31 at 4:44 p.m.

This just in: my hubby’s bro scored two tickets to the Zags game.
    Gosh. I’m a basketball widow!

  • chatterbox on December 31 at 9:22 p.m.

A little wine, a little GU basketball. A lonngg winter’s nap.

  • Bent on January 01 at 11:41 a.m.

We rented Barrel Room 6 downtown for my daughter’s wedding reception… It was fantastic … if you are looking for a great place for a family event or party… I HIGHLY recommend Barrel Room 6
