Item: Crisis needs swift action, Obama says: He’s unapologetic in stimulus push/Washington Post
More Info: President Barack Obama declared in his first prime-time news conference Monday night that the task of saving and creating jobs is more important than cultivating the bipartisan cooperation he promised to bring to Washington and pressed his case for the massive economic stimulus plan working its way through Congress.
Question: Did President Obama’s news conference reassure you re: the stimulus package?

Not after looking at this graph. Considering the 1.35 trillion of tax cuts Bush proposed to jump start the economy in 2001 this doesn’t seem to be enough.

Fwiw, statistics can be misleading. That graph shows gross numbers, not percentages. There are huge job losses, indeed, but the total number in the workforce is not taken into consideration. There have been more jobs available to lose.

Not sure why they chose the word “unapologetic” for the story. Whatever would he need to apologize for? He’s pushing a plan and I think he did well in this press conference. He took questions from reporters all over the spectrum and he speaks in clear sentences that don’t insult our intelligence. I appreciated that.
Here’s a link to a story in the Idaho Business Review about Minnick’s vote and his opinions on stimulus and the economy that I considered well-written and thought-provoking here: www.idahobusiness.net/archive.htm/2009/02/09/Whats-eating-Walt-Minnick

DFO, can I get a little HTML help on that link please? I’m not quite sure what I’m doing wrong that the HTML won’t create a link for me on the new HBO. Certainly can’t be user error, can it? heh

No html for you!
Go to the back of the line.
The word jumped at me too Mike. The presumption of some reporters.

Thanks HTML gurus. Sometimes when things are made easier, they confuse the relative luddites among us.
Well, they confuse me anyway, wouldn’t want to lump anyone else into my low-bar category.

MikeK; I re-posted your link. Under the new system, I don’t think you need all the HTML coding. Just post the URL address. That’s what I did — and it worked. Blogmeister Ryan, BTW, is working on HTML coding for use here in the near future — italics, bold face, etc. He also is working on a way to allow photos & photoshops to be posted here. But no YouTubes.

Thanks, DFO. Now I’m going to bring a little stimulus to some local fast-food restaurant in the form of buying lunch on the way to a meeting. I’m doing my level best to help!

Thanks, idahogie. That puts things in a letter better perspective, and shows how things are, indeed, bad for us right now.

It’s nice listening to a President who can speak with feeling and elucidate clearly. Former Prezzident Bush looked like he was ready to leap out of his skin. And I don’t think Obama says “Nu-Kew-ler”, either.
