Izzit just me, or has the vocal Demo blogosphere gone in the tank since Barack Obama won the presidency? I don’t mean to stir things up (and if you believe that you’d believe that I’m one of the 36 singers still in the running for “American Idol” this season), but the Gem State’s liberal blogosphere, which tracked Bill Sali like a bloodhound and helped boost Walt Minnick into office, has become a snoozer since November. Consider. Red County posts are rare since Julie Fanselow left. 43rd State is compelling reading only when our friend Sisyphus posts. MountainGoat Report and Political Game are bogged down bird-dogging Zeb Miller. Which is a worthy goal. But not nearly as interesting in North Idaho as MGR’s reports on Sali’s voting record. IdaBlue is good when he posts. Fort Boise is about the same as ever.
Morialekafa offers dependable liberal rants for True Believers. But not for most others. Thank God for Chris an Unequivocal Notion. Who can be relied upon for a morning coffee roundup daily — as well as decent comments and good links on a host of topics of general interest. Meanwhile, Adam, Clayton, Dennis, and — yes — Brian keep the right side of the state blogosphere interesting with topics that stimulate discussion. My 2 Cents is pointing this out with the purpose of prodding the Left Wing of the Idaho blogosphere to kick it in gear again.

Yer just missing Julie. She still out there but now she gets paid for it.

And thanks for the nod but the other contributors are putting in some excellent efforts. MG has been pre-occupied now that Sali is gone. But she’ll be back. And poor Tara has had back issues from hell.
And apropos for the day, the blogs they be evolving. Chris has certainly made up for any deficiencies you may have observed. But he’s addled cause he thinks it will be a short session. ;-)

It’s Zeb BELL and if you weren’t front-paging IVA every day you’d maybe have the time to take a look at what we’re writing and see how dangerous the guy is.
If we track Bill Sali we’re bloodhounds and doing a service, but if we track hate speech we’re bogged down in bird-dogging?
Yes, Sis, back issues from hell. To put it mildly.

I front-page Brian Fischer when he writes interesting stuff that is worth debating. I haven’t posted him much of late b/c he hasn’t been that interesting. And there’s topics of his that I avoid. Frankly. I know that some of you on the Left would muzzle Brian, Rush Limbaugh and others that drive you crazy if you could. Just as some on the right would muzzle Bob from being front-paged here. And would certainly stifle a good many Hollywood stars from speaking out. That’s called censorship. Those who advocate that approach, either left or right, are intolerant censors. And should be ignored. As far as Zeb Bell is concerned, he’s your cause way down in southern Idaho. Not mine. I look for material with legs for my roundups. The Idaho Leftosphere is providing less of that today.
thepoliticalgame on February 12 at 12:48 p.m.
And it is *still* Zeb BELL.

Thanx, Political Game; one of the beauties of working at HBO Central is … I can go in and chance my comment mistakes.
Sisyphus on February 12 at 12:57 p.m.
“I know that some of you on the Left would muzzle Brian, Rush Limbaugh “—pshaw. What then would we do? S’like fish in a barrel.
Dunno if I agree with your censorship comments. By just putting up the controversial topics, it drives the narrative. In fact it what’s wrong with journalism. It leads to divisiveness and encourages its own censorship like missing the opportunity to educate similar to what happened when no-nothing bobbleheads with an axe to grind are selected for news segments on the stimulus instead of articulate economists. But its a brave new world.
BlueinIdaho on February 12 at 1:13 p.m.
I agree that the left blogs are quieter. Are we not entitled to some relaxation? Most democrats have been collectively holding their breaths for the last eight years hoping that the damage would not be too great to overcome. Now that we finally have someone we trust in office, we’re taking a wait and see approach. In other words, there’s less to b-tch about…
Sisyphus on February 12 at 1:31 p.m.
Well as far as the comparison goes, things are quieter now than the heat of the election last year. But with the legislature back in town I’d like to see more of us dogging it. But the real comparison is the lack of much of anything on the red side which remains unchanged despite the seismic election consequences.
GaryIngram on February 12 at 1:46 p.m.
Left blogs quieting down? Well, when you’re embarassed ya tend to hang out in the corners and hope nobody notices you before you sneak out when no one is looking. I don’t know this for sure as I’ve never been embarrased in my life. Just guessing, ya know.
Bob on February 12 at 1:54 p.m.
Wow Gary, thanks for choosing today with that post to begin.
saraeanderson on February 12 at 1:56 p.m.
I totally lost my momentum when I started getting sick last year (I’d peg it around July 08), and just haven’t been able to pick it up again. Despite a lot of effort to get back in it, the saddle has eluded me for quite some time. When you start to lose touch, it turns from back and forth to just forth, and that’s kind of boring.
Guess I ain’t as young as I used to be.

Blue; I thoroughly disagree. From your point of view, the national government is in good hands. But, fuhcryinoutloud, Nonini’s trying to trash education and the Idaho Legislature is in session. You have 2 Blues cross-firing Zeb Bell. While individuals who have the power in this state to take advantage of a downturn are in place to pounce, you’re fiddling. C’mon. The advance guard always mans the ramparts.
Sisyphus on February 12 at 2:02 p.m.
LOL Gary. We observe all the time how difficult it must be for embarrassment to exist among the oblivious. ;-) Don’t confuse embarrassment with contentment after victory. I wouldn’t say the war is over nor the battle abandoned.
Transplanted_Texan on February 12 at 2:14 p.m.
I would be interested in a comparison of conservative pundit activity 2002-2006 vs. 2006-2009, as well. It’s always easier to be the loyal opposition, I feel.
Cindy_H on February 12 at 2:15 p.m.
Hmm… Contentment?
Haven’t seen much of that around here, lately. Lotsa itchy, scratchy snarkiness, but no deep sighing, tummy rubbing sounds of satisfaction.
How come?
Nick_Adams on February 12 at 2:16 p.m.
I believe that a major factor is that lefties in Idaho tend to get more worked up over national politics than local or state politics. Given the train wreck of the Bush administration, it was easy to do. Iraq, abortion, gay marriage, stem cells, torture, wire-tapping, civil rights, etc. are way, ahem, sexier than stuff like education, transportation, land use or trash collection.
Chris is doing a good job with the local stuff. Granted, I may be biased because he seems to focus on booze a lot—which I’m all for. Maybe the Nonini nonsense will fire up some other bloggers.

It’s not just you DFO. The left wing blogoshere has gone silent. I believe it’s because they’re all busy worshiping Obama as the savior and have pledged undying loyalty to the guy.
He is THE ONE.
News Flash: Obama is just a man. He’s just a politician. He’s not a superhero. He’s just one guy.
I think he’s going to disappoint a lot of people. Nobody can live up to those lofty expectations. Bush had favorable ratings in the beginning. He managed to flush them down the drain with a bunch of stupid moves, but people liked Bush. They elected him TWICE.
Cindy_H on February 12 at 3:18 p.m.
Thanks, thom. I’ll stop scratching behind HBO’s ears.
But I could swear every now and then I see a tail wag.
Sisyphus on February 12 at 3:20 p.m.
Save it sockpuppet. the worshipping schtick is so plaaaaayed. Its just a painfully obvious strawman. As with embarrassment don’t confuse satisfaction with adoration. But given the obvious comparison to 43 I can see where you might think Obama’s superhuman.
I was bidden by one of my blogmates to deliver the following message: “our interest in providing fodder for his corporate blog can be measured in micro-give-a-sh**s.”
Don’t shoot the messenger.
Joker on February 12 at 3:28 p.m.
Holy Cripes Batman,
I actually want Obama to succeed. The country needs him to do a good job.
I just think liberal are blind to some of his early mistakes. They were all to eager to pound Bush into the ground over every little miststep.
I love it that certain blogmates cower in fear and have to pass notes. You guys are funny! PSSS, tell that certain blogmate that I know I am dancing in their head.

thawtfulreader on February 12 at 3:54 p.m.
It is not surprising in the least that liberal oriented blogs in Idaho have slowed down since the election, and I think it’s a fair nudge from DFO to want to see them be more active on the state and regional issues.
On the national front, there seems to be no slowdown on the liberal blogs, driven by the various serious issues that are being considered by the Congress and the President.

Thanks for the compliment on my consistency.
I have a number of occupations, and blogging is not usually the highest priority. My preference is for longer, more thoughtful pieces (reading, as well as writing), which have the opportunity of being more durable. Two non-profit boards, three volunteer jobs, and paying work that sometimes goes to full time take their toll.
I would’ve liked to have said more about the combined bicentennial of Lincoln and Darwin, for example. Maybe tomorrow.
Politically speaking, well, there’s a lot of work to be done. It’s disappointing to me that the national Republican Party hasn’t found a useful role for itself. And Idaho’s one-party rule looks even worse in a crisis than it does when things are going well.
slfisher on February 22 at 8:40 a.m.
Actually, I’m constantly surprised by how many *new* blogs I keep discovering. A number of ‘watchdog’ blogs have been set up to keep an eye on what’s happening in legislative districts in Idaho, and places like Unequivocal Notion and Ridenbaugh seem as busy as ever (actually, UN is busier).
The only one that *has* gone down is Red State Rebels, because of Julie’s change of circumstance.
Arpie on February 22 at 5:14 p.m.
Hey SLF, can you provide links to these watchdog blogs. They sound interesting. I live in district 2 with Joyce Broadsword as my senator and Dick Harwood as one of my reps. These dogs need some serious watching.
