Idaho State Police say seat belts could have saved the lives of a father and son who were killed Tuesday in a head-on crash along Highway 95 near Cocolalla. That crash took the lives of 67-year-old Norm Flom and his 35-year-old son Jason. “I broke my left femur that’s all for now, I fractured my right foot,” Denise Viney said from her hospital bed Wednesday. Denise and her husband Tom were driving north to Bonners Ferry when the ISP says that Norm Flom’s truck crossed the centerline/KXLY. More here.
Question: How often do you wear your seatbelts?

Every time I get in the car. (And it is Winey, not Viney)

I turned 16 in 1986. I’ve never driven, or ridden in the front seat, without buckling in…it just seems stupid not to take that extra precautionary step.

Every time I get in the car. Kids, too. When my boys were teens, they not only strapped in but the one who sat next to me, the driver, got the added bonus of the “Auto Mommy belt”. If I stopped too hard, my right arm would automatically wing out and slap the poor kid in the chest to hold him back. It used to be that they would argue about who got to sit in front - after a few Auto-Mommy belts, they opted for the back seat. (My oldest son even found a Mother’s Day card with the Auto Mommy belt.)

Every time. And if someone doesn’t buckle up in my car, I remind them to buckle up.

I have incentive to wear seat belts as a result of Oregon’s “Click It or Ticket” law. $97 for not wearing a seat belt? Noooooo thanks…
