13 Die in ‘Friday the 13th’ … (Yawn)

Let’s celebrate “Friday the 13th” with a little red meat, shall we? And hard numbers. There are 13 grisly deaths in this latest sequel: machete decapitations, an arrow through the head, somebody burned to death in a sleeping bag – you know the slasher drill. Three nubile young things take their tops off. Two of them have hot sex with not-nearly-as-naked guys in the same forest by the same Crystal Lake where all those camp counselors were butchered back in the 1980 original. This Michael Bay production is a graphic homage to the series that helped turn simple slasher pictures into a formula for success. It may have Bay’s big-budget sheen, and it’s every bit as efficient and heartless as the original Fridays. But for all its attempted jolts, it’s not all that scary/Orlando Sentinel. More here.

Question: Are you a fan of “Friday the 13th” type slasher movies? Or does the day itself make you nervous whenever it pops up on the calendar, like today?

How about a “no” to both? I do not like slasher films, and Friday the 13th does not make me nervous.

I avoid slasher movies unless they are very campy and then I feel ok laughing hysterically.

As to Friday the 13th. Ha! I laugh in the face of Friday the 13th. I shout out “triskaidekaphobia! triskaidekaphobia! triskaidekaphobia!” several times (13 to be exact) and follow it by “you don’t scare me!!!!” and knock on wood three times, throw salt over my right shoulder, and put my rabbit foot on top of my monitor.

Slasher movies aren’t my thing. The scariest movies are the things you don’t see.

I didn’t watch Friday the 13th original or its sequels. I won’t be watching this one. No, Friday the 13th doesn’t make me nervous. Would anyone like to know why people are superstitious about the day? Because of Jesus and his 12 apostles I do believe. In fact, I understand that the number 13 makes people nervous. It wasn’t all that long ago that some buildings were built to avoid a 13th floor. Slasher movies aren’t my thing either. I prefer vampire movies.

I prefer well done slasher films. Friday the 13th the original was good as was it’s immediate sequel. After that the series went down hill rapidly. Same with Nightmare on Elm St and Halloween. I do have to say I did enjoy Jason X and Freddy versus Jason.

My all time favorite slasher film was a little one from Canada called My Bloody Valentine http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082782/

I don’t bother with the modern ones like Saw and such. Those seem to be just gore fests for the sake of gore and how shocking they can be.

Slasher movies are boring and predictable. Give me Mulholland Drive-like creepiness instead. THAT’s the stuff of nightmares, not this trumped up teenage baloney.

Don’t do slasher movies. I got married on a Friday the 13th. My lucky day!
