Hitchin’ Post Readies For V-Day

Item: Hitched in a hurry: Hitching Post sees lovers of all types on Valentine’s Day/Tom Hasslinger, CDA Press

More Info: The chapel has hitched young, old, fertile, sterile, skinny and pregnant, vacationers watery-eyed from cocktails, weekenders from Washington, Montana and California; elderly couples racing against the clock and soldiers trying to beat deployment — 15 minutes at a time. There is the couple who met in high school, ones on the Internet, ones who met 50 years ago, and some who met yesterday. Saturday, Valentine’s Day, will see them all. The reservation list is full. The changing rooms, the two bedrooms in the back, will be converted to chapels all their own.

Question: Were you married at the Hitchin’ Post? Are do you know anyone who was married at the Hitchin’ Post?

Mom and step Dad was married at the post, twice. The first time was not legal because of a glitch in Mom’s divorce. Two weeks later they went back to get hitched again (legally). Every year for over 30 years they get in a fight over their anniversary date. My sisters and I have learned to stay out of it. They are equal opportunity fighters and will take turns claiming one date or another.

Almost everyone I know who got hitched at the hitching post, has since been divorced.

Seems cliche to get married on Valentines Day. I have a friend who got married on Halloween. That was kinda cool.

Yep, got hitched there 25 years ago…still going strong…..though I know that’s the exception.

Yup, got married there. The marriage lasted a little longer than the ceremony. (I exaggerate only slightly.) Oops.

Two of my kids got married there. However, neither of them lasted. So, I really don’t recommend it. I also got married there, that didn’t last either.

Mebbe I shoulda asked: Does anyone know of a couple who were married at the Hitchin’ Post — and that marriage is still intact years later?

My parents! They just fight about their anniversary every year. Mom’s first marriage was in a church and lasted a little over 3 years. Both Mom and Dad remarried at hitching post style establishments and have been married 34 years to my step parents.

I got hitched at the hitchin post 15 years ago - we’re still having great fun!! Second marriage for both of us - thus the hitchin post.

My Mom and Stepdad got married there and my Dad and Stepmom did too.

Oh - forgot to say that the Mom and Dad / step marriages lasted too - three of those four have passed on now, but they didn’t divorce and had very happy second marriages.

I was married in at the Hitching Post eleven years ago and my marriage is the best thing that ever happened to me. It was not a first marriage for either one of us. We did the whole thing privately and it was how we wanted it. My brother Raymond Pert and his soon-to-be wife liked the idea so well they did the same thing four months later. They have also enjoyed eleven years of marriage. For us it was practical and inexpensive. I did get a great lunch out afterward!
