Simple Mind: Don’t Buy Me Flowers

The King and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. And nothing would tick me off more than if he bought me flowers. You can go to buy flowers during the year and get some really nice dozen of roses for $9.95. But this week, it is $39.95 and $100. Highway robbery. We don’t need candy … neither of us. And we have even given up on the cards. They aren’t our words. See the King and I feel you should be Sweethearts every day. And we are. So what is the big deal? And we don’t need a guilt day/Cis, From A Simple Mind. More here.

Question: What kind of gift would you like to receive on Valentine’s Day?

TLC. Tender loving care and lots of bear hugs.

I feel singularly unqualified to comment on Valentines Day, as I have been single for 18 years and unmarried for 20 years. But I had to remark on Cis’ remarks about love. First, I believe that valentines day was created by the greeting card people and the florists.

Having said that, it is refreshing to hear from Cis on this issue, as she seems to have more common sense than the average person, and maybe more than the above average. Between Cis and Mari, I get a primer on life that is invaluable. I just don’t have anyone to share it with.

So what I have done, sans a relationship of my own, I have gathered together a few of our regulars for their stories, which can be found on this blog. I would just like to add that those of you that in this somewhat unstable world we live in, have managed to create living, loving relationships, are to be congratulated, because it’s not easy.

Going one step further, and without touting any special religion, it is obvious that those families and relationships that include God seem to be healthier, last longer, and end even better.

Herb, as you are our friend, here’s my tribute to Deena:

    My Lovely

    Lost upon a midnight star
    I dreamt of beauty fair.
In loft I woke by moon afar
    To find My Lovely there.

Wild turkeys nest in upland fir
    With daylight no delay.
They watch to see My Lovely stir
Her treats they seek all day.

In distant grove the horses tred
    Such slowness is their gait!
To creek side waters they are led
    Their morning feed to wait.

The tree squirrels start their daily quest
    To feeders they will head.
As morning fires the mountains west
    Song birds are there instead.

Like feathered bed that lies beneath
    My Lovely’s endless love.
    Signals true the just belief
    We’re blessed by God above.

And then she moves, my beauty does
    Her eyes now open slight.
A smile reminds me of the cause.
My Lovely – and my life!

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone, and God Bless..
